    Fellow New Britannians,

    The metropolis of Beran’s Reach is pleased to announce the official opening of the first full-time courthouse in New Britannia. The courthouse is nestled at the foot of he mountain north of Britanny just outside out the Beran’s Reach town center and is free and open to all New Britannians who honor the virtue of Justice. The courthouse will be served by a standing bench of 5 magistrates that can be called upon to serve before citizens. The process for nomination and selection of magistrates begins shortly in a separate post and we’re soliciting input from you!

    The courthouse building houses a lower court (which also serves as a general meeting hall) that can seat around 50 people and a grand upper court which can accommodate about 100 avatars. In addition to the two courts we have offices for administrators, clerks, a prosecutor and a defender.

    The courthouse also serves as grand formal venue for official ceremonies such as weddings, coronations and other events of recognition and honoring. Please feel free to visit at any time to assess suitability for your event and reach out to Astor Cerberus either in-game or on the forums to book it as a venue.

    The court looks forward to furthering the cause of the virtue of Justice.

    Back in the R18-20 wipe cycle (spring-summer 2015), there was a massive effort to test the basement limits of Castle Paxlair in the then-novelty POT of Paxlair. One of the floors was devoted to crime and punishment, and the above picture is from the courtroom we built back in R19, when outdoor fences could still be put indoor and underground.

    I like the idea and the setting.
    I as well like the idea of magistrates.
    I would have thought about a different way than community election but hey, that's your party ;-)
    How do we start a trail in this court?

    I can help you start a trial soon as I am done with the pirate story which should be wrapping up soon. Here is what we need *grins*: Lets have some dignified royal lady at some party who happened to step outside for fresh air notice a drunken pirate relieving his bladder with a failure to totally conceal himself and presses charges *holds laughter*. I will need a good defense attorney but this could definitely lighten things up after all the concerns about possible wipes/recipe losses. I did someithing like this back in UO Chessie years ago and everyone involved had a good time. R/Boris

    You have a few options:
    1) You hire an outlander experienced in legal matters to represent you.
    2) You can represent yourself (suggest you familiarize yourself with legal concepts. @Cassyr Dubois published works are an excellent start, a copy is on display in the lobby for public perusal or can be purchased at Womby & Vyrin's

    Note:
    - All correspondence to the court can be made using the drop box at the main lobby. Once magistrates are selected an confirmed your request will be reviewed
    - This is judiciary and not law enforcement. The court will rule on applicable matters brought before it and keep and publish appropriate records of such rulings for public perusal.
