Yea, but you aren't even talking about griefing behavior.

Judging by your responses to me, it sounds you're saying if PvP has any indirect effect on PvE at all, even if its just minor issues of something being more convenient versus less convenient, that's enough for you to complain.

Honestly, you're free to have your viewpoint. I'd just rather you not frame it so that if I disagree with you, I'm in favor of a litany of horrible things including subjugation, dominance, and extortion.

Okay, I hope you can see why some don't see that as equivalent to griefing, though.

Not equivalent, but it's all on the same spectrum. Light grey, dark grey, they're still grey.

There are things allowed in the game right now that are much closer to griefing than potential inconveniences caused by PvP...

Like some of the stuff your neighbors can do with housing decorations... Still, it would be a wrong IMO to take an instance of your neighbor not having your tastes, and an instance of your neighbor being a jerk, and putting it on the same spectrum.

    Anyway...

Agree to disagree, but I hope you can respect the fact that I disagree.

Yea, but if its just a prize you put up for grabs, isn't it basically a duel with a pot ?

What I'm interested in is thinking of ways the game can facilitate this, and also provide some real stakes which differentiate PvP from PvE in some form... I gave my ideas, but I would be interested if you had any other ones.

There does not have to be a prize. As far as I would think the guild vs guild would be anywhere in the world also. The roleplay or the context of it would be decided between the warring guilds. I was just using examples. What would be there would be the tools to be free from griefing from outside influences from what ever scenario or less/more roleplay you want.

Yea, I just think for this to be interesting for a large number of players, ultimately the game would need to facilitate it; meaning you'd be fighting for some type of stakes provided for you (even if agreed to by consent).

well it could be just a bunch of guilds getting together in a role play alliance. I am not sure how it is planned but if there are alliances to the guilds then possibly there could be multiple guilds at war with each other. It worked this way on UO Europa server. I was with BOC (based in Cove), and the alliances/wars changed all the time. The guild leaders would create scenarios for us. We did dungeon crawls (with basic gear) and had to rely on each other for healing. We did caravan escorts which would get waylaid by Trinsic. Sometimes we had diplomatic missions to try to convince other militias to gain favor, such as Vesper or Yew. It takes a lot of work as a guild leader to work with other guild leaders but it was so much fun. We had a purpose, we had goals. New reqruits where sent on player made quests to retrieve certain items. After so long the player would advance in ranks if done properly. It gave a sense of accomplishment. A reason to log in. Much of this is lacking in the way this game works right now.

This was one of the things I was looking forward to more than most other things, actually. I love the idea of moving goods as a trader/broker moving large quantities of items across the map for people, having to hire players who worked as mercenaries to help move it and protect it from aggressive players who would seek to ransack the caravan. But alas, things like covered wagons never made it into the game and moving items really isn't all that difficult. :\

This is the exactly what I am hoping SOTA will put in place and sooner rather than later. It's desperately needed by this game and I do not understand why it's not a feature that is top of the devs list to implement. It's really not that hard and opens up many new possibilities.

The RPpvp and all the associated RP guilds, towns and scenarios on Europa was fantastic for many years and I miss those times hugely. SOTA has the potential to re-create those times but they need to guild v guild systems in place asap.

Classic straw man. Sadly, if this is a real Penn Jillette quote it shows he traffics in partisan nonsense. This is just as defective a statement as:

I wish everyone could be ok voicing their opinions about PvP simply as opinions and preferences, and not try to continue to pretend they are based on logic and facts. In my opinoin, that's the heart of why people argue so much about these things; they believe their opinions somehow have a greater claim to reality.

There are a few resources only found in PvP areas. They are used to make things that are only useful in PvP.
If your idea of "fun" is ganking sheep, that is great, until you run out of sheep. Can you name a current successful game which has successful full open-world PvP everywhere with persistence and an economy? (And UO is out, because Trammel.)
If you can understand that, you will understand why full PvP everywhere would result in not being able to find anybody anywhere. Except for the minority that just wants one big dog fight, that is.

Didn’t we already have the Guild vs Guild in a simpler form? We originally had were anyone would flag PVP and PVP anyone else who flagged PVP.

There were no PVP only zones with Felucca’s poor 2x resource idea like we have now.

Wasn’t there an uproar that just flagging PVP and battling anywhere was not meaningful so prized were added, then concentrated into PVP only zones?

It sounds to me Guild vs Guild PVP would accomplish the same thing as the original anyone flag PVP and battle anywhere. Right? Or am I missing something.

I proposed a plan in the past to Portalarium. I requested that the UO style guild warfare to be implemented. This would allow guild warfare to one on one guilds without flagging themselves for the overworld. I also would like to implement a ROE system (rules of engagement) that would allow selective looting rights for the warring guilds. Guilds and allied guilds would be subject to the ROE contract for the terms of war. Looting rights could be set from "no looting" to the broad spectrum of "full loot". This would be a contract signed at the declaration of war between the two warring guilds (and allies). Guilds that are helpful could take in new players and teach them pvp mechanics and war other guilds with the "no loot" setting in the ROE contract. This would help new players learn PvP without risk really, except repairs or such.

This system would also allow Role Players to perform stage shows and performances, even role play pvp without hindrance from being flagged from open world pvp. This would allow Tournaments to take place without griefing. This would solve the PvE player owned town problem of hosting pvp events in them, as they could use the guild warfare feature to do the tournaments. I strongly urge the review of this system as it would be very beneficial to all of Shroud players.

This would also help the hard core pvp guilds as you could set the ROE to full loot. Its a win win.

For that... I've just suggested that individual players be able to set up a single instance of a friendly duel that would stop before anyone died, so there would be no risk. I compared to the kind of fist fights you see in Skyrim which stop when you reach a certain threshold of health.. and then on top of that, being able to set up party vs. party duels.

Anyway whatever RoE system there is, I think it needs to be able to function at the individual level. So, lets say you meet up with a friend, or a stranger, and just want to spar with him without any risks that come with death (including game measures like decay, etc)

The reason why you can't find anyone right now is because everyone who wants to pvp is gong to Blood Bay and the Fall. The shardfalls currently have nothing to offer pvpers.

If you want pvp go to blood bay right now and talk in zone.
