    Chapter 1 -

The priest's were in prayer, the Monastery was quiet except for the chanting of the Monks. Candles lit the main room lighting up the otherwise somber prayer hall. A Grand Master Priest stood at the pulpit waiting for the ending of the chant. When the chants slowly resonated to an end off the echoed hall, the Grand Master Priest spoke. "Welcome Brethren to another beautiful day given to us by our gods, for they are great and good and we are the men that upholds and preaches their goodness to all!"

Michael sat there in the pew and was anxious to finish the sermon and go see his family, for this was the day the Priest's were able to go home for 2 days and spend quality time with their families! He longed to see his Mother and Father and his little sister! It had been months, since he last saw them. He was placed in the monastery at a young age, chosen by the Priests themselves. "There was something special about this one" was always the reasoning behind his move, it also kept his family in business for they were farmers who grew crops and raised cattle for the Monastery, keeping them all well taken care of including his family. His father would come weekly and deliver the food to the Priests. Young Michael would only be able to watch him come in from the walls of this great holy fortress, but was never able to interact with his Father or family except for certain days that ran every 2 months, where he was allowed to go home and visit his family for 2 days, but even then the Priests demanded that the young ones spread the word of the gods to others while on their leave.

The Priests would go to each of their young ones cities and observe their actions in disguise and there would be a massive interrogation upon their arrival back from their time off. Any young priest that lied or did not spread the word would be severely punished! They would be taken to the "Repentance Chambers" and beaten to a bloody mess by Master Priests called "Inquisitors" until they confessed while being force fed the word of the gods, some of them never returned! Those who did not return were labeled "The Fallen", those that did return took weeks to recover from the punishment! They were not healed by Priests (even though they could have been.) they were left to suffer healing at a normal rate, but continuing with every day work at the Monastery, this was called "the way of forgiveness"

Michael had been through that only once before, when he was nine years old, when he lied to the priests and told them he did spread the word when in fact he did not. It took 2 months to fully heal from that "Way of Forgiveness"! He was sixteen now going on seventeen almost ready to be let loose upon the lands to spread the word of the gods. He only needed 2 more weeks before he was released, but he had a secret the other Priests did not know if they found out his secret it would surely end in death! Every night when the Priests slept, he would sneak out into the night and train in the way of the warrior, blades and bows with a seasoned veteran Knight, "Sir Ducal" a Warsworn Knight of Lord Turner from the City Of Waterdown, a 2 day ride from Monastery here on the outskirts of the City of Chantlamore. A Warsworn Company had set up an encampment a few miles away. This is Where Michael would sneak out too during the dead of the night and train. Training with weapons besides a bludgeoning ones was strictly forbidden by the Monastery and the young priests were told the gods frown upon this! It was punishable by death, there was no other option!

Over the years of training with Sir Ducal, Michael became a seasoned warrior himself with all weapons, he excelled in bladed combat and tactics and was skilled in mounted combat as well. The "Warsworn" knew this was against the monasteries laws, but Michael was so good at combat they turned a cheek to the fact this one was being trained by their best. Many times they wished they could accept him into "Warsworn" Status but knew it would mean instant death for his family and him as well if the Monastery ever found out! With the Orc Wars recently passed and crooked Priests running amuck upon the lands, they could not chance another conflict any time soon, with yet another enemy.

    Chapter 2 -Coming of Age

The sermon had ended and Michael was out the door in a flash, but abruptly stopped by one of the Master Priest's, Father Francs snagged him up by the shoulder and turned him around looked him dead in the eyes and said "Young one do not forget to spread the word on your leave, we will be watching from the shadows!" Michael said "No need to worry Father i shall spread the word better than any other!" that seemed the safest response, for Father Francs was not only a Master Priest but also an Inquisitor the one most of the Young priests never wanted to see.

He was extremely brutal and almost seemed to enjoy dishing out pain a little too much! He was covered in scars and was the only "young Priest" to go through "The way of Forgiveness" five times! When he got older instead of going out to the lands to spread the word he wanted to stay behind and become an Inquisitor! He did have a brother at one time named Josue. Josue lied to the priests, and the Master Priest told Father Francs to punish him, his brother became a "Fallen", in Addition to that Francs was sent to his home to kill his mother for bearing such a heretic! Father Franc did as he was told and slaughtered his own mother, all while his father watched the macabre! This was one Master Priest you did not want to cross!

Father Francs cracked a slight smile through his scarred face and whispered into Michael's ear "I have been assigned to you this time do not disappoint me!" That sent chills through Michael's body.
"do-don't worry Father i shall not!" Then Francs pushed him out the door, and as Michael was heading down the path he looked back and Father Francs motioned to him "I will be watching!"
