Lol. Yes, they are literally called combat vendors, although they could have names. The "type" appears in smaller lettering if you know their name.

@Mishikal Ok, here is my experience with the vendors. In Spite, the combat merchant is named that, the blacksmith's name is 'Randy'. Combat vendor is better except for the sheild:

Haha, as I stated it must be a marginal difference. Not worth to look for anyone else than the first npc who buys it.

I just sell at the closest vendor to where I'm currently hunting. It would take more time than it's worth to bother with finding a better price.

Normally this is the case, but in Spite, the two vendors are literally 10 steps apart from each other and makes a difference of a couple hundred gold every time you unload your junk. There are other spots where it's equally convenient to check; like when I mine Elysium, I unload junk at Phoenix Fields where they have all the main vendors in one spot at the entrance. In those situations, 15 seconds of checking makes you thousands of gold over several trips.

That's not my experience at all. I went around to numerous vendors around the map with the same loot to sell. The highest amount of gold was always paid out by the Blacksmith. Some vendors matched the blacksmith, many didn't, even within the same town. In Spite, the Combat merchant offered less than the Blacksmith.

Blacksmith (Ardoris, Soltown, Spite, Port Graff) - 263g
    Merchant (Soltown) - 263g
    Combat Merchant (Spite) - 259g
    Merchant (Celestis) - 211g
    Carpenter (Ardoris) - 211g
Crafting Supplies (Port Graff) - 211g
Groceries Merchant (Port Graff) - 211g

Celestis - Merchant (Used to be a Blacksmith)

I disagree about it being marginal. If I sell when fully loaded, I earn 200-300g more by selling for top dollar than bottom dollar. And that adds up, especially for the amount of time invested.

No evidence it is wrong. My experience in fact shows that the tip is correct. Every blacksmith I've been to provides top dollar for goods. Other vendors may also, but most do not.

Well that's just f'ing weird. Sidenote: why does your Spite Blacksmith have a different name than mine?

Here's what I propose: you meet me in Spite and I'll give you some junk and we can see if it prices the same (j/k, I wouldn't waste your time like that :)). But, there is something weird going on here. Is there a difference between MPO and Friends/SPO?

I was wondering if perhaps some stat affects pricing? But I checked after casting the various stat buffs, and prices didn't change, so if it is based on stats, it's based on your base stat w/o buffs.

Is it possible there is more than one Blacksmith in Spite? I'm going to the one immediately on the left after crossing the bridge coming into Spite.

I don't think so; sounds like the same one. He's in the same room with the Combat Merchant.

Have you stolen things from merchants? I haven't. I've heard that affects their willingness to do business with you; could it affect prices?

I've stolen from many merchants, and the blacksmith in Spite is one of them. Yet he offers me the same prices as any other Blacksmith. I haven't stolen from Spite in quite a while, so it shouldn't affect the Combat merchant, unless it's just based on virtue in general.

It might be that all merchants are responding simply to your virtue score by some flat rate penalty. Complete speculation, though. You would think you would still get differences between merchant types.

It would be great to know the reason for this! @Berek

@Berek Would you be able to get a dev to comment on why we see this discrepancies?
