I understand there is more important things right now, but maybe in the future, a different work for the sky? at least inside the zones of combat and cities, the more detailed areas.

Sorry the simple edit, a little oil paint to remove bad cuts.

That's it, more details in the sky, because we have amazing scenarios.

The sky becomes very interesting if you wear an astrolabe or double click a Darkstarr moondial.

I saw some images, cool features for sure! Now, my point is to improve the sky box, i don't know how the world map and areas are sharing this, because of the day and night system, but they are too simple. I am very impressed with some locations. :)

How does one acquire such things if one does not currently have them?

The astrolabe is craftable. Look on sotacraft.com in the alchemy section.

    The astrolabe is awesome!

About topic @Selat. Your edited images looks really good but the game is using a dynamic sky system. High quiality sky images can be used for static skyboxes but when you set a day/night circle with more than one layer (background, clouds..etc) is a bit more complicated.

I need to say that I'm not sure what they are using in sota but with my previous Unity experience, I see at least two layers in there and clouds are probably just textures using the alpha channel.

The quiality can be improved, we are agree on that and I played some MMOs with a really cool day/night cirlces (ESO for example). Nowadays when you use a third party engine, sometimes is more fast and effective to use a third party (Unity store ftw) skyboxes, animations, etc.

I like your art style on those clouds :D

I saw some screenshots of the user Rada Torment, describing an astrolabe, acquired using crafting. There is a recipe, i guess, the feature requires some place able to use decoration, right?
    Thanks, Rada Torment. :)

I like clouds passing a sense of "roof" and vivid colors. I imagined something like dynamic skies in use, i don't know Unity to point what type of sky in terms of prefab. But when the sky is a big mass of smoke and few details between the layers, i dont like, is too simple.

And we see big shapes of textures with alpha to fill more space in the sky, if you rotate the camera they react like 2d sprites... well Skyrim uses this, but in distant clouds, small shapes.

You right @Selat , we call them billboards (2d shapes). The grass in sota works in the same way. Default grass in unity is rendered as a billboard, meaning it will always face the camera (like these clouds you mentioned).

I'm not very fan of this technique (very common for grass in some games). You gain performance because you use less vertices (vertex count hits performance), but you sacrifice some quality.

Always nice to talk about art and tech side of the graphics :)

I think the height is the key factor for grass, to keep a good visual using billboards, with the sky not so much.

My vision of the sky, maybe in terms of keep the textures (planets, clouds, stars, sun, etc) on the same position and size, but in some way, refine. The wireframe is just an idea of skybox, the grid in the skies. :)

The last time i tested an editor, was Unreal, version something, a long time ago.

is good in terms of ambient light, is more about resolution of clouds, stars and planets, the cycle of day and night and ways to use the dome to see constellations, all cool. :)

I have always loved the sky in SOTA. I know it is not done and astrology stuff is not done, but we are seeing pieces of the changes as the team can get them in. Love the pictures in this thread too. ;)

I like the effect, hope a map to combine with the skies someday.

Just the textures, clouds sometimes are a wall of smoke, other clouds are big shapes (billboards), Rada Torment explains above. The background with stars is a little lowres and we have a donut in the skies, those planets around. :)
