Titles: just who do you think you are?

    This is actually a really simple one. In the real world you become a Duke when a King gives you land to rule over. IE protect it and or raise taxes on land usage. So anyone that bought the Duke title and has no land to me is not a Duke. Now someone who owns land and didnt purchase a title in my book is still the Lord of his land and in my book is a "Lord" on his own accounts. Now a Duke is a title given by a King, you can not make yourself a Duke.

    I am going to roleplay as a Duke. I paid 5k for the title and you guys can all decide to not accept it but in my RP POT you will have to. In my town where I call the shots I am Duke, everywhere else you can call me Sally if it makes you happy.

    FWIW, the pledge reward pages state "Exclusive Title". You want the official title? Then buy it. I did. Nothing precludes everyone else doing the same...

    Thank you very much Lord Lock of Pax et Veritas.

    That title has a nice ring to it. If only I could find my champion for Serenite. You said you are going to RP as a Knight Marshall but you are a Lord in my book for being a town founder. Anyone who owns land is a Lord in my book.

    I have created new characters with names to go along with a title and go earn it for fun. Just like in an internet forum, there is always be going to be some player having a bad day or whatever that will try to rain on your parade whether it be a title, a mount, or anything unique. It is just a game and players are just people.

    I intend to role play a duke as I have to take care of towns as well. When I bought a RP town, i knew that is what I was committing to. Whether or not I display the title will depend entirely on how I am feeling at the moment. Sometimes Most of the time, I just do not want the attention.

    Hence, "exclusive". I bought my pledge level for number of reasons. One of those reasons being the exclusive benefits. I would be sorely disappointed to see those benefits watered down and/or obtainable by other means. Same for the tools of prosperity which I also purchased. I'm investing in the game for differentiation from players that will come later and/or don't want to invest.

    I would also point out that I didn't buy someone's 'royal whatever' pledge either. I didn't feel it was fair to those who truly bought early. Fairness goes both ways.

    Regardless, your point is valid. That's why I'll never have the Duke title.

    Like I said in another thread, I am appreciative that they donated that amount, but i don't think they should have specail treatment in game more then anyone else. They got rewards for what they did, but it doesn't mean they are real royalty.

    I know some people will want to play servents and stuff like that and more power to them, however, no one should be forced to recognize them as royalty of some sort.

    As above, I think Bowen nailed it.

    I do not belive from this day forward i will be able to see duke William in game or in the forums without calling him sally from now on.

    i even chuckle thinking about the first time i see him and go hey sally how are you doing today and duke William going huh oh yea probably followed with my death shortly their after but its all in good fun

    Don't let the Order of Vengeance title fool you. I am terrible at PVP. Luckily I am the founder of the NON pvp town.

    That doesn't mean I wont send some troops to bring me your head on a plate though..;)

    I joined my guild for one simple reason. Everyone is equal and their motto is "No Knee Shall Bow". Im a LOTM but wasnt born that way so I despise bowing and being bowed to. How can you find out who is a leader if only title dictates it by birth(or pledge). Just my two cents.

    Your mileage may vary but that is not the only interpretation of "No Knee Shall Bow" either in real life or MMO RP.
