Town Blessings Update

In Release 39 the first iteration of Town Blessing will be going live. Owners of Player Towns will have the ability to place 11 different Devotionals to the 8 Virtues and 3 Principles in their towns.

Each Devotional offers a different blessing and the power of the blessing is based on how many people live in the town. To receive a blessing you merely need to stand near a Devotional that has been placed in a POT (or NPC town). Players can only have one blessing active at any time so visiting a Devotional while another blessing is active will overwrite the current blessing. These Devotionals also attract the attention of the Cabalists and there is a chance that your town will come under siege if you have them placed (this will come online in R40).



Here is a list of the base level Devotionals that are included with each POT and the associated blessings (each one listed is a placeable decoration, see pictures):

• Truth: Intelligence Buff
• Love: Dexterity Buff
• Courage: Strength Buff
• Humility: Magic Resistance Buff and Fishing Bait Recovery Buff
• Honesty: Focus Buff and Alchemy Buff
• Justice: Fizzle Reduction and Cooking Buff
• Honor: Focus Regeneration Buff and Agriculture Buff
• Spirituality: Adventuring Level Buff and Fishing Level Buff
• Compassion: Dodge Buff and Tailoring Buff
• Sacrifice: Health Regeneration Buff and Carpentry Buff
• Valor: Health Buff and Blacksmith Buff

Devotionals are considered NPC buildings so are therefore limited by the number of NPC buildings your town can support. Those NPC Building limits per town are:

• Holdfast: 1
• Hamlet: 2
• Village: 3
• Crossroads Village: 4
• Town: 6
• City: 10
• Metropolis: 15

These devotionals will also appear in NPC towns starting in R40. Please note that these Devotionals are new decorations and not the original items tentatively planned to be associated with Blessings (Hooded Statue, Titan Statues, Dragon Bones, etc.). All town owners will receive these new devotionals as rewards and the original items can continue to be used as NPC Buildings. You will need to claim rewards at a bank to receive these rewards.

I'm disappointed that their were not less virtuous options however. I'm not sure that any of these feel correct for my POT.

Having spent a lot of time on the lore and linking it to the Obsidians, this is a bit of a disappoint for me personally and I hope that there will be more options in the future.

But for the time being it's good to finally get this system on board.

 

I believe Holdfast is actually the smallest town size.. we only get 1 NPC building..

Will the older statues become just POT deco and not considered NPC buildings?

ok, found my answer in the lower paragraphs... so yes, they will be considered NPC buildings.

There are such things as anti-virtues in traditional Ultima lore and I suspect we'll see the same type of thing here again. Maybe eventually...

 

They're probably still being considered NPC buildings to act as a functional limit so little Holdfasts like mine don't end up with all devotionals.. Though I would prefer it if they made a devotional limit = to NPC building limits.. so you're still limited in how many you have but smaller towns aren't hit so hard by the restriction.

 

Will there be a variety of these in NPC cities or will Ardoris only have the Love Devotional for example?

 

Agreed. I would very much like to place a devotional in our Hamlet, but with the two building limit, that becomes a really hard choice.

 

I didn't post this for lawyering...just to inform anyone that didn't see this in discord. It made me happy.

 

Yeah, for future releases I'd like to see Elven, Kobold, Obsidian, and Oracle devotionals, and ones dedicated to Chaos and Virtue/Infinity.

 

When it was still planned to use existing 'buildings' like titan statues I really didn't care for the idea at all.. but now that it's virtue specific shrines I actually want one! But I have no room at all.

Some players have noted that while they are Dishonest, they hope for a blessing at Honesty, and so forth...
The ORACLE may not like that, and may have to put a stop to such abuses!

Schneider DragonFang on Discord had a great idea. IF we ever get an evil option for the blessing system, could we work it into the Obsidian septagram of dominion?

 

What about a Hospitaller Devotional that increases advancement of skills below 40, and greatly increases skills set to unlearn? Get players who couldn't start with the skills they wanted into fighting trim easier.

 

Devotionals for each of the seven Septagrams? That'd be great!

 

Don't forget NUDITY: Leave in the buff.

 

Although I'm curious why there are 8 Obsidian Cabalists but only 7 Septagrams?

 

how decoable are these if they're being treated as buildings? can i leave a pumpkin on one?
