treasure hunting instances where you have to deal with puzzles, both timed and thought related, would be excellent.

Imagine when you get to tell someone "man, I almost got to that treasurebox, but then I didn't figure the puzzle out in time and an axe cut me in half!"

I like the cryptography idea; There were a few puzzles like that in The Secret World and they were a lot of fun. One memorable quest gave you an audio recording of beeps which you had to figure out was Morse code. Then you had to actually decipher it, and it gave you x/y positions for a treasure.

I wouldn't mind going on some Goonies caliber treasure hunt where my character is stuck in some cave system underground for days.

This is a little off topic, but related I think. I would like to propose the ability of buring chests or bags in the ground, especially the woods. The purpose of this would be as a cheap way to store things when you don't have a house or other safe area. It would be inherently unsafe, since someone could come along and dig it up, but only if they happened to know where to dig somehow. It'd also make for a way to deliver items to others without anyone seeing you together, should that become necessary. Anywho, just a thought!

I would only wish to bury treasure if I could make a map to that treasure. But if I could make a map to that treasure I would only want to do so if I could put the map in a locked-but-pickable chest that I might then leave somewhere, and have it persist until discovered by some lucky adventurer.

Alas! The system resources required to maintain the locked-but-pickable chest with its map to the fabulous treasure I buried so long ago, years it seems.

Perhaps then such a complex ability should be something I were able to fund somehow, to relieve the system of such a burden unrewarded.

Treasure hunting in UO was alot of fun.

Would be fun if players made their own treasure hunting quests.

About the players being able to create their own treasure hunting quests: no please. In PvP thats going to end like a gank fest if you show up at that spot. Make it drop from NPCs or as a quest reward.

Lets just hope this treasure hunting doesn't allow for dragging guardian monsters into town to slaughter people...

It's called treasure hunting. Not people hunting.

Treasure Hunting was fun but most of the time the loot was not worth it.
I'd say at least put something of good value in there.

The loot was worth it up until Age of Shadows introduced "lolol so many numbers" to all the items.

The trick is you had to do the high level maps. the little ones were just for nubs.

Agree! Risk is vital to making it actually worth while...nothing easily gained is that great imo.
