The 'to do' list on the UI is nice for new players, but is there a way to turn it off? Thanks!

Hi! At the bottom of the list of Control options the Options tab you can set a shortcut key under Toggle Task List. The default is set to None.

Game Options -> Control -> Toggle Task List

Thanks; would have never thought it would be an unmapped game control.

You can right-click it also, to hide it.

For me, that leaves the "X items in journal" message.

Same. It would be nice to get rid of that message entirely. In addition, if you're in a party, it moves over to the right of the nameplate space, which is really annoying visually.

The advice from @Pebbles is sage; you have to go into controls and assign a toggle key for it (it's at the very bottom of the controls menu). Then you can toggle it away completely.
