Here is the composition that the Ultima II cover might have possessed had I done it at Richard's request back in the day. Lord British was consulted on the elements and layout. I did this pen and ink illustration on Bristol Board for a $25 patron of my Patreon campaign. Once a month, one of the $25 patrons gets to choose the theme for a physical piece of art. This fellow chose the Ultima II cover as his theme.

    Enjoy!

    Thanks! :)
Of course Richard wanted armies battling, and I went, "Nope, nope, nope, no. Nope. Uh uh." Had to scale the conflict way back to just the crucial elements and players. I have not presented the final result to Richard yet. You guys are seeing it before he does! :)

Loubet that is one excellent cover. Your use of light, dark, color and tone, and the shapes, angles and layout is masterful.

The real question is, who's player owned town is that burning in the background? ;)

Sir_Hemlock: Thank you! I think the shadowed winged critter went a little too Mike Mignola with those ribs, but I'm learning.;)

belfong: You KNOW there has to be a villain! :p

Baron Drocis Fondorlatos: Ooh! If only we could have had our own houses in Ultima 2! Just think!

Doc Farnsworth: "Stop that! Stop that! They'll be no quoting of Monty Python while I'm here!"

    My pleasure! :)

Here's an early SotA character concept piece:

I like this guy! Big splashes of color and knee-high boots. I could totally see him in the Wizard of Oz. It's the apron and arm-bands that say shopkeeper.

    Enjoy!

And now for the distaff set:
Early Shroud of the Avatar character concept art for the female shopkeeper. Variation 1 is less steampunk and more Wizard of Oz, while variation 2 would be more Victorian if it was black and grey. But again, the apron makes the shopkeeper. (Yellow boots? What the hell was I thinking?)

Early Shroud of the Avatar character concept for the Socialite. The outfit would be at home in Flash Gordon or Jupiter Rising. (I also think the bust got away from me a bit...:p)
I ask myself how many people would actually want to play this character.

Early Shroud of the Avatar character concept piece. This includes a bit of reference material supplied by Portalarium. This is a tame example of some of the runway fashions I was using as reference. I made it drape to the floor, use a single huge button, and show more skin. I think the attempt at high-heel spats is fun, though the "Playboy Bunny" wrist cuffs may be a little much...

Mr. Loubet, this is outstanding! Thanks for sharing.

With the emps already in the game, we totally need her costume (including the crown) in SotA,

It could be an elite cloth armor for magic users.. and the crown could be something that gives you the ability to tame/control up to 3 emps at once while wearing it.

    Thank you, Razimus! :)

Miracle Dragon: Thanks! I take it the emps are the little flying creatures I drew for the Blade of the Avatar chapter headings?

Minions are always great! And a crown for the win!:)

Here's another early Shroud of the Avatar character concept piece. Last of the female shopkeepers, I swear! This is a fairly innocuous design, and again the apron spells shopkeeper. She would also make a great waitress.
