These are basic commodities in demand in the crafting economy, and would be appropriate for lower-level dungeon/cave scenes for newer avatars. Preferable to nerfing the h*** out of ore mining scenes like Owl's Nest. Lower value = easier mobs = a better ramp up for the newbs.

Also good for cheap jokes about spending time in the salt mines...

Do that and crafting becomes a weaker gold sink.

Not with how many fuels are required compared to how many you can gather. Plus damage on tools while mining.

    The difference is virtually nothing.

Haven't had a chance to check the coal nodes in places like Solace Forest, but maybe they give more than just 1 a harvest or only a couple on a meticulous now?

I mine the ones in Ulfheim on occasion while annoying the skellies, and it's 1 or 2

I'd enjoy having these 2 mines added.

This is definitely the best reason to do this.

As long as they don't take back the ability to buy the fuels, like they took back the ability to buy cooking ingredients (lettuce, lemon, etc) and are trying to make people grow 'em all themselves.

Unless someone knows where to find a vendor that sells more than seeds?

Sure, but it's the reason the devs won't do it. That which could hurt the economy is verboten.

I doubt the amount of coal and salt brought out of a couple entry level mines would make much of a dent in the amount consumed by all the crafters in game. You're never going to make a lot of GP off of it (unless the NPC vendor are deleted and that'd screw up all the recipes depending on it). It's more an easy entry for avatars who want to start leveling up mining and combat in a dungeon/mine setting rather than adventure scene.

It's a desing-decision to mke those crafting fuels a vendor-only resource. If you start with coal- and salt-mines you have to take care of all the other fueltype, too... like wax for example... and as a tailor I would need loooots of wax... Sure, it would be nice to have the chance to lower my expenses by being able to gather the fuels, too... but I'm pretty sure it would have a very heavy and bad impact on the economy, if fuels were to be supplied by players only...

I thought the original design was we were supposed to be able to gather fuels. I don't think it will have that big of an impact on the economy anyway depending on how it was implemented. Reagents and water buckets are also small gold sinks but I can grow 3 of the reagents and gather as much water as I'm willing to pull out of the well. It doesn't have to be easy or exceptionally fast but gathering fuels should definitely be possible. I'm hoping as more scenes become uncloned we'll start to see areas where we can do so.

Absolutely agree with the OP. I've mentioned this myself before and I suspect that it will happen soon enough.
