Now when you refine a carcass into meat it gets lighter, makes sense.

When you smelt ore into ingots it gets heavier. Shouldnt it get lighter?

I would think the refined version of any crafting raw material should get lighter.

Keep in mind you are more likely to carry raw materials while you're in over world or adventure zones, which significantly affected by encumbrance. For the refined ones you will be more like to have them in town especially if you're the one making them.

If we really want go for realism, no one would be able to run around the world with full plate armor. One or two tree logs would require multiple people to drag.

How about consistency? If raw materials are lighter then they should all be lighter. Some are, some are not. I don't care which it is, just seems like it should be consistent. Like perhaps make the heads and carcasses a tad lighter :)

There are certain items that were explicitly adjusted for "balancing", such as wolf heads. They were much lighter before, but people were able to farm them and then made into wolf hats to sell back to NPC merchant to the point where their account got auto-suspended for making too much gold within small time frame threshold (that item got "balanced" too).

I can see the wolf heads. I did discover that even now they are a pretty good source of cash with the wolf hats.

At least lets drop the weight of the carcass. Its not a money maker :)

You should take into consideration, that items usually also take up physical space. In SotA there is no seperate measurement for that so it is also reflected with the weight. Balancing is of course another important factor as Royce stated so

Regarding carcasses... have you ever seen a real dead deer or wolf? Well, as stated above, this isn't the real world and for me the weight of carcasses are quite alright.

Yup, its pretty video gamey. I think there are more important things to address, but it would be cool if item weights "made more sense" in terms of scale relative to each other, without being impossible to carry en masse. Sounds like a PITA to setup and maintain though.

Field dressing + butchery skill = skins + meat. Easy enough

Normally I would agree, but since it is 4 ores = 1 ingot I would think it would be heavier... Now if it were to change to 1 ore = 1 ingot, then removing the slag would make it lighter, but not by much...
