I think they should borrow from a wide base IE take all the good features and turn them into your own cause this thread taught me no two people will agree on something like this:)

Oh I totally agree with you. I have warrior type character in neverwinter, I just love the combat feel and the fun things my character can do. I loved my bezzerker in tera but it really wore out my hand. Also I liked a lot about the combat in Lord of the rings, and I had a disciple in Vanguard that really was fun to play.

Darkfall had a really good combat system imo.
It would be very naive of me to say it's the best in gaming history sinse I've not played every game on the market.
However from the games I have played, Darkfall had the most enjoyable and memorable combat system for me.
Next up I would have to say Age of Conan, simply because at the time it was a ballzy move to introduce combos to the mmorpg genre and imo it actually worked well and suited the game.

Barbarian of course. 8 Attacks vs 3 Defending options. Done.
You are focused on the screen , and not on the bottom.
    You react to the enemy.

If there wasn't an NDA there, I could write a lenghty comment on this...

Anyway, I have enjoyed many different combat systems but found all of them somehow flawed so I cannot say which one is best. Maybe I could say Ultima Underworld, Morrowind and DDO (before the patches of the last three years) were the most enjoyable for me (all first person and PvE only - PvP in DDO was/is a joke).
UO pre-AoS was great at the time and would still be "ok-ish" today, for a third-person view game.

Oh, that was PvE and PvP :D With some luck and good timing you could win in just one move (back + fire button on C64).

Ultima Online circa UO:R when you couldn't heal through poison, Age of Conan comes in 2nd.

Everyone knows what the most popular and best selling game in the world is, but because it's not "cool" in this crowd, they won't say it for fear of being considered "un-sophisticated" or a casual who wants their hand held on/in a theme-park.

Facts are facts, and the truth is the truth.
The thread didn't say "In your opinion, What game had the best combat mechanics?"
So in that light, to deny is to lie...

*But if it did ask for personal opinion (which it didn't), I'd say GW2.

Most popular would be Candy Crush. But I assume you mean LoL, which simply dwarfs all MMOs as far as PvP combat.

    Not combat...is not...unless you're doin' it wrong...

PvP combat is, as you know, minor a sub-class of combat.
PvP is to equal to wiping off sweat on gym mats, compared to PvE in MMOs.
LoL is not an MMO (as in MMORGPG) either.;)

I actually enjoy the combat mechanics of TSW

Final Fantasy XI, as much as I adored the story and characters/character models up to the end of CoP, was too macro based for me, then again being a ninja tank involved lots of shadow counting, casting / cancels, last resorts, mijin gakure ... yeah good times. Leaving and coming back just completely broke my brain after playing whack a mole in WoW. Skill Chains, unfortunately, are something we'll likely not see the like of again.

Absolutely can't stand the mouselook targeting games that showed up a year or two back, being TERA and NW. I find its one of the things along with subscription models and PvP that tends to split the gaming population nowdays. ^~ I know some folks like it just keep it away from me! XD

Yes UO:R had by far the best magic combat system and the game had become balanced since dexers (melee) could perform as well if not better then the mages.
