What is the deal with leather scraps?

    So... it seems that making leather with leather scraps is more expensive in curing salts and costs the same in animal hide. What am I missing here? I'm not getting the logic on that, why even bother?

    this has been pointed out before. this is actually an update to the recipe; the previous one didn't make sense either.

    Really? This seems like a no brainer, make it produce 2 leather instead of 1 and it is solved... just like it is with ore.
    At least I know Im not the one going mad, the recipe really has no sense
