I'd like to see a few more characters from this Ultima IV tileset. We have a lot of these already.

Who would the community like to see to help our mobs get a bit less samey ?

Also would be nice dose of nostalgia

There are several of these that would be.. technically challenging to the point I think would be unreasonable I'm afraid.. such as floors and insect swarms. Orcs are fomorian creatures in the Ultimas so they've pretty much been written out of the world lore wise. Britdge trolls we have, as well as phantoms (ghosts) Daemons we have also.

Many of the ones on your list are aquatic encounters, which will probably come with ships in Episode 2. Gazers and Xorn are unlikely, as they are hard to not make duplicative, so can't really be distinct to the existing copyright holders (Hasbro for Beholders, EA for Gazers, etc).

I'd love to get Headlesses, even if they have to be changed up (like blemmyes).

The Floor would be a cool mimic. I think Stephen Daniele had a concept for Carpet and Door mimics, although the image eludes me at the moment.

We already have Gremlins and Mongbats rolled together in what our Imps are.

Insect swarms shouldn't be too technically challenging. We already have particle effects so we could do it that way.

Phantoms are not ghosts - they are the ultima creatures that look like sword and shield fighting by themselves.

I can't change the poll unfortunately to remove stuff we have.

Over 75 percent of the list is non-aquatic.... I'm a little disappointed by both your responses as they are geared to "what we cannot do" as opposed to what we can do. Let's stay positive !!

Corpsers. Headless. Hydra. Rats. Bats. Vultures. Hell hounds. Nightmares. Some nondescript giant floating eye thing.

If this was in the first dozen or so "we want Ultima creatures" post, I'd be more positive.

Fair enough, but I just came back to the game 2 months ago so I'm still fresh. Plus I'm pacing myself.

How would you hit an insect swarm with melee or a bow? :) It's not the particle effects that make that one a challenge.

Phantoms.. well "ultima creatures" I don't think is really a good basis. Most "ultima creatures" come from other sources..

No need to take anything too seriously.. I never said we couldn't.. I only said challenging and challenging is still achievable. Speaking of staying positive. ;)

Well, having an enemy immune to some forms of attack might make for more interesting encounters than yet another timber wolf, methinks.

And call them Animated Armor or whatever you want... I think it would be cool..... :)

*edit* I see hydras are wanted... that would be very cool !

If you pause the screen when Chris shows those old documents that were written up before sota was kickstarted, there is a note there about the game being set pre ultima. Since I never played ultima, I don't know the lore and if this still holds true, but if it is, then anything written out of ultima could technically still be in this game and not break cannon.

It has to be post tho because then how else do you explain Jaana's ancestor in Jaanaford... which is named after her... All of this must be post Ultima IV, but it's set in a world that looks like Ultimas I and III, and on top of that it's a long time later and the obsidians were there ...

I mean maybe it's pre Ultima 9 because I'm not clear on when that took place... Britannia from U4 was destroyed... that's all I know

Pre-Ultima would have been interesting but probably a little more confining in terms of lore. I'm not sure what you mean by 'written out of Ultima' if you mean something that comes from Ultima or has nothing to do with it.

It's definitely post-UIX. In IX the Guardian uses 'blackrock pillars' to corrupt the virtues as part of his invasion of Britannia. The obsidian forge is the base of one of these pillars. This is eluded to in the story of how Hilt came to be. Also, the map of New Britannia we see in the moondials and Benefactor symbols is basically the Ultima IX map with Buc's Den being replaced by Novia.

Insects would be a nice addition in swamp areas.

I dont know if they were in UIV but i miss Drakes and the poisonous Wyvern!

I kind of think we already have the Gazers/Beholders too in the large "Watchers" found in a few areas such as K'rul.

Lord of the Rings Online has swarms of enemies, including insects. Just low-hp, high-Dex mobs with a unique appearance.
