Yes that scene has some serious performance problems. I get constant hitching there.

This was happening to me in Upper Tears. A possibility is the connection of others. I get that little disconnect signal sometime when I am crafting.

I had one really bad group like that in UT, but several ones that were fine. It might have to do with the computer / net of the person running the instance.

Probably the scene master on a really horrid system/connection.

Slightly more complicated than that but yes, essentially the first person into a scene is the master and if they have a bad connection or an older machine it can cause lag for everyone else.

Hmm. Can you confirm this information with valid technical documents and or a confirmation from a dev somewhere?

Its how peer to peer networks work. Mastet is not really really hosting it. Everyone is. Everyone still loads data from port servers but syncronization is done throught master client. Master is tje one who is the first to start an instance of a scene.
Master works as a middle man, verifying bunch of data between clients, taking some burden from the actual server.

If master has bad computer and/or network, it can cause problems for everyone.

What I absolutely hate in p2p networks, is that my ip has to be exposed to other players. Rainbow six siege had p2p speech system and angry players could dig out the ip and start ddos attacks on their opponents..

But, p2p has been verified and is used heavily in this game. Having one dedicated server in US, would not work.

Can you please show me where you get this information from?
As far as I understand the P2P is only when having the launcher open to download/share the patches to other players.

iirc this was Info from a very early Telethon by Chris.
It's well known that the first player in a scene is a sort of a Master Host of this scene.
There are also PvP related discussions about that iirc.

dang I did not realize this..... don't think I would have spent a dime on this game if I knew that this is how it would work ….. rethinking.. p2p sounds like a dumb way to build a game....

It is smart cost wise but I do believe that the multiplayer instances should be hosted by Port. Sucks to have someone sitting their invis afk at the entrance when I am trying to fight something, and they been there for hours with a horrible connection. Lagging the entire scene.

This explains all the UDP packets that are being blasted over the network when playing. I thought it was just the API data being pushed to the outside world.
Well if that is the case, I hope I never become the master of some scene as I have a very strict external firewall on my network and my kids are also very active on the other computers using bandwidth...
Could we please get an explanation from the developers about this please?

They don't use Unity build in networking. They use Photon Unity Network aka PUN.
I'm sure that you have already been master many times.
