Have you guys noticed that for the past week there has been a patch every single day - something twice a day?
I would have loved to call these patches "ninja patches" but they are 1GB + patches each!

Now I'm making this out of memory but a few days ago there was a patch for 1.6 GB, the next day, there was one for 1.2 GB. It went on and on and now today we get another 1.2 GB patch and recently another one that was about 1 GB. THAT'S A LOT OF GIGABYTES! And not a single patch note? Wth is going on out there? I understand that there was an update to get some bundles out of the COTOs merchants but that should be barely 10MB of an update. I'm sure there are some small bug fixes or quests fixes out there (which I still see some to date that have been reported a year ago or more).

So what the hell is going on? Please keep your community informed so we at least know what to look forward (or backward?) to. It's getting frustrating to have this giant patch every single day with no news.

SotA is a ongoing early access with no inhouse QA.
You're not the only one who has a problem with it.

Most of the time, after a monthly release there patches everyday for a week. This is normal SotA behavior. If you have steam then yes the patches everyday are most of the time a full client download.
If you use the official patcher you will not get these big updates but more incremental updates.

I am not sure why you are so paranoid..

    It's not paranoia, it's simply a question.
But I see that having Steam might be the cause. So then a Steam user cannot avoid those huge patches?

Nope, for me it was a 1.5GB download for a new Add-On store Yule hat.

I wish Portalarium would stop the monthly release nonsense and deliver new content when it's done and not when the month is over.

That's a damn shame - hopefully this gets better in the future somehow for Steam players.

I highly recommend the stand-alone installation.

Yep, this is just how Steam works.

You have the ability to solve this for yourself... Use the standalone launcher and not steam...
This won't be 'solved' as Steam is highly unlikely to change how they work.
I appreciate Portalarium fixing issues with alacrity.

You will have a link to download Portalarium's installer on your Account page's Game Client/Steam tab.

Totally disagree, love the system the way it is. Your choice to use Steam.

What kind of third world networks are you using, that downloading few G's causes problems?

PS: Not steams fault :p Last update was mostly one HUGE asset file, steam handles delta packing just fine, Sota patches are not made compatible with that for some reason..

PSS: I mean, I just bought Read dead redemption and it was 70G download, took less than an hour.

My problem is not the download size, i have a 200 MB/s connection.
    It's more the update philosophy.
One Update every month followed by various "small" updates to fix the biggest issues and missing content from the monthly update.
That is OK for Early Access, but not for the actual game on a live Server.

Steam is not the problem here.

Another post illustrating the No Win situation this team finds themselves in.
Personally, I appreciate the rapid update schedule, and the ability to address issues quickly... One of the Many failings of Ultima Online was the deathly slow update process that lead to bugs and exploits lingering for Months.

We had a new release a week ago. It is normal for them to have patches for about ten days after a new release.
You're using Steam, aren't you? Steam (apparently) only replaces entire files, but most of the files used by SotA are like zip files, they have a lot of smaller files put together, and the order isn't important.
You could stop Steam from doing the patching and just let it start up your game through the native launcher. I don't know how to do it because I don't use Steam, because it's pointless to use Steam if you don't play a lot of different games.
Probably because the "delta" algorithm assumes that the chunks of the file remain in the same order. Since the order doesn't matter, the patcher doesn't try to keep things in any particular order. Since this seems to be a Unity thing, I wouldn't be surprised if other Unity-based games had this problem too.

Even if someome's camel were to get a broken back from Steam's last giga-straw, can a current steam user download Port's client and log in with their character? Is it that simple?

You just need to link your Portalarum account to your Steam account. Unfortunately, I don't remember how this is done.

[edit] Apparently, it's on the Game Client / Steam tab on the SotA account page.

Hey thanks, @Alley Oop and @Barugon . You're golden. My potato brain presumes this to be impossible, but, if I were to use Port's client, can I still use the one-click sign-in button?
