Which enemies (where) are dropping Crowns of the Obsidians?

Is this still true? I tried to repair an artifact with a gold crown, but it didn't work. Had to use an ancient essence. If it still works, how is it done? A Coto is much cheaper than even the cheapest artifact.

On an extended mining trip at the moment. .have found 1 gold and 1 bronze crown. As others have stated anything can drop them.. but I've only found maybe 5 or 6 tops now since persistence.

COTOs should still be used on non-artifacts.. but now you have to salvage artifacts for essences in order to repair an artifact. Edit: or my understanding anyway

 

I have kept all the ones ive found in a chest since persistence. I have 59 total but only one of them has been gold so far.

In my experience the higher difficulty areas have a higher drop rate. And bosses have the highest.

It seems like it's more about the difficulty of the zone and not the actual mobs. Because I've never had one drop in Wyrmsands killing the elite skeles (im thinking it's way more rare since the actual zone difficulty is 4 skull or maybe 3, I can't remember), and I have spent a ton of time there. I have found most of them in the rise & the old elysium mine (mostly in the mine it was off mobs, I've only found 2 from mining nodes and I mine A LOT).

 

scene difficulty might help but it's not an absolute. i got one off a frostgeist in highvale outskirts. outskirts scenes are zero-skull, just an empty pole at the entrance.

I have gotten a couple off of mining, 2 iron crowns.

I did get a Bronze one recently in the Twins Foothills - probably from the Rouges or Swashbucklers.

 

Yeah, if you're grinding for COTOs, hope you're patient

Just play the game, make some gold, and perhaps you'll get some COTOs. If you need more, use that gold to buy from players that are selling them. No need to get them from the Store, unless you're comfortable with that and can afford it.

Regarding the rate -- I do remember Chris saying he will adjust based on overall number / value in the economy. So yes, some one could buy 100,000 of them from the store and really mess with the economy and thus drop rates.

From what I understand you can get any COTO type from any corpse or node. Not sure if it needs to be higher tier or if that just brings the rate up; as far as I know it may not make any difference.

Max durability on non-artifacts can be repaired with any type of metal COTO. Doesn't need to be gold. Not sure how arti repair works this latest release yet.

 

Is their a linear cost involved or do they repair less on each repair?

 

That I don't know, I still haven't had to repair max dura on anything twice yet.
