    There are Royal versions of 11 of the pledge titles, but not all of them. There is a Royal Lord Marshall, but no Royal Lord or Royal Duke for example. Why?

    Royal Artisan (gold)
    Royal Archivist (gold)
    Royal Cartographer, Explorer (gold)

    I believe that the Royal Lord equivalent is "High Baron." At least that's what I have.

    I would love to have the tinkerer's title wonder if it will ever be available in the add on store? ;)

    Where do you get your titles? Do you have to talk to LB or something? In alpha I thought they were gonna be in your inventory...

    And then hit the "-" key, I believe to pull up the Titles dialog.

    I'll have to look at that later. I definitely claimed the rewards.

    Do these tiers not have Royal versions the way most do?

    * Citizen
    * Knight
    * Lord
    * Baron
    * Duke
    * Lord of the Manor

    The Founder version of many of the titles are "Royal", but not all of them are. You can see what titles come with each pledge on the Founder pledge rewards list.

    Yea, as a Founder Baron pledge, I just figured it was the Baron gold title but apparently the pledges don't necessarily match the titles. So, I figured it must be High Baron. Nope, it's Count or Earl. :p

    Yeah, some of this is just due to poor wording. For example, the "Royal Founder" title is for having any pledge during Kickstarter (thus, a Royal Founder account), not for having a Founder account version of the Founder pledge tier.

    It seems odd to have them for certain tiers but not others.

    I believe they do have different titles for the different ranks. For instance, Founder Dukes are "Duke" and Benefactor Dukes are "Marquis".

    Everything evolved over time. There were some ideas at the start of KS, more got added. The KS stuff got extending after it was funded, more tiers got added. Then there was some way to gift early status for a year. If they'd designed 12 tiers from the start, there probably would have been a system which made more sense.

    The "Royal" prefix should mean some extra prestige, but also mean "Working for the King and/or his family". So, a "Royal Gardener" is OK, but a "Royal Duke" makes no sense. Will a Duke be able to not to work with the King? Only a foreign one. Also, some title might actually mean less by be prefixed by "Royal", like the word "bastard".

    The actual titles aren't perfect, but they avoid the worst mistakes about Royal (e.g. no "Royal Sir").

    Does Royal Lord Marshall make sense?

    The Royal titles were awarded to Royal Founders for backing the game super early.

    No sense at all! Well, I am assuming titles based on old English titles, and English law. Everything is possible on a root-less 100% fictional world.

    For the "Royal" prefix make sense, it must apply to a title that can be either serving the King, or not. The Lord Marshall (of England) will always serve the crown.

    Mesne lords are the nobles that hold lands for another noble, not for the King. E.g., a Baron might hold a feud for an Earl, in turn holding the lands for a Duke; this one answering directly to the King. We can imagine that by adding "Royal" to a Baron title we can hint a higher prestige title (that is, he is serving the King directly) than a mesne Baron.

    This one is a complex topic, and we will be wise to refer to better sources than this forum. I suggest to read about the Peerage of the United Kingdom, and the Forms of address in the United Kingdom, to better discuss this subject.

    A Royal Lord Marshal is someone who "upgraded from a founder pledge to Lord Marshal" ;) (F)

    Making any sense of it is totally preposterous as all Kingdoms have had their own set of customs o_O...
    English Peerage is only one such Kingdom...
