    Hello;

    I am new to this game and just have the base game. I have a couple of basic Air Magic spells (Dash). It says it has a 45% chance to fizzle "based on equipment". I have NO equipment that causes any fizzle chance. No other school of magic has this chance to fizzle. I have tried taking all of my equipment off, and standing around naked, and it still says those spells have a 45% chance to fizzle.

    What is going on?

    Basically, to sum up the thread Alley Oops is referring to, that is not the actual fizzle chance, that is the effect on your armors fizzle chance : +45%. What that means is, take your armors fizzle chance, and add 45% of that amount to it, and thats the real armor fizzle chance (so in your case : 0 • 1.45 = 0, or in the other OPs case : 18 • 1.45 = 26.1). That is a number that is added on top of the spells "base" fizzle chance in the tool tip (which goes down as your skill level goes up) resulting in the total fizzle chance that will show up on the glyph in your hotbar.

    Pretty rough, but summarized.

    I see. I'm not sure I understand yet, but I appreciate the information.

    Should I stick to cloth armor then for a mage?

    If you want to play a Mage, I would recommend it for now. as you will level up, you will be able to wear "Heavier" gear and still be fizzle free (or close) 1 tip, gloves are the worst on fizzle chance. Change those LAST!

    Also don’t forget to level up the Follow Through skill in the Focus tree! It helps reduce fizzle.

    Just a few things to clarify because you can have air with armor:

    Movement gives 30% fizzle to everything (horrible idea think it should be 15)
    Having both your hands with a weopon gives 30%fizzle
    Having one hand weopon one hand shield gives even more fizzle.
    And on top of that Air is the highest fizzle tree

    So 1 the right side trees have less fizzle and are easier to caste with higher armor. Carry a wand in your offhand, this gives +15% fizzle and is actually a net +30% increase of replacing a second weopon or not for shield.

    So in other words you don’t have to stay in cloth but you do have to balance changes to armor with offsets in order to still cast air and be affective on the move. Other trees are more forgiving.

    Equipping wands in one or both hands can reduce fizzle.
