Why does my mage staff burst into flame at night?

I bit the bullet and started training myself to use just spells and my maple/leather staff to get used to the mage combat style. Being cautious, I took my avatar into a 1-skull zone (King's Crossing) to test my new spellcaster configuration.

I know that the current staff weapon functions as a bludgeon and no longer auto-fires low damage fireballs. But I was surprised as hell when the 3 skulls burst into flame during combat at night. The fire cast little or no illumination and didn't seem to add damage so I am very confused on what the purpose is.

Is it because I was fighting spiders/undead skeletons? The flame effect didn't manifest when I was fighting bandits in another adventure zone.

 

It's an animation bug. It happens when you chop down trees. I'm not sure why it seems to happen in some scenes over others.

It's been reported before but since it never gets fixed it's probably a good thing to report it again.

 

That must explain it because the fire effect didn't happen again. Thanks Baron

 

Would this be related to the wand glowing that occurs for no reason as well?

I use 2 Wands but never saw an issue like this.

 

Yes, I've even bug reported it a long time ago (with no real response).. it happens when I'm in a scene for a long time, but actually I haven't used a wand for two releases now, so maybe it's completely broken again? I would be using one wand when it would happen, and also a shield.. not sure if it coincided with the time of day or not.. I will have to dust off my wand and see if I can make it light up! I don't believe I've ever seen it happen when I wielded two wands...

Can you get a screenshot of the staff? Is it a regular flame color, or blue like the wand glow?

 

Happens to me, but I have only noticed it when i'm mining or chopping trees. Oh, and I noticed yesterday that my staff overlapped my Lute when I decided to play a tune. Can't remember if I had been in war mode or not.

 

It had a regular flame color. The effect made it seem that the flames were gusting out from the skulls rather than simply burning around them. Will take a pic when it happens again.
