... when you see something that looks like garlic outside your local supermarket and you start slapping your pockets looking for your sickle. The disappointment is great when it turns out to be a crocus.

I've often wished that garlic was always so easy to spy

 

While not as clear, maybe try night vision + light? Might see things that are normally not visible to the eye if you do.

On a bright and sunny day (might have been raining)

Now, turn off the lights and move in a bit closer so you can see it better - garlic stands out a bit.
