Right now the sky and the clouds do look like a flat texture, it looks more like fog drifting by high above you.
I think great looking clouds, maybe even 3D clouds, that change the color with a dawn or sunset could add a lot of atmosphere as well as enhance the overall graphical quality of the game.

    Something like this:

With you on this one. The Sky should look as it did in the player "environment" mods for Oblivion in 2006.

    Doable !

And fix the moon ! Please, fix the moon. It looks like an object about 250 feet up in the air. Make it a painting in a skybox or however it works... not a 3D object.... or just make it look "real". It's a real issue atm.

And while we are talking about the sky:

Why don't the stars move ? The whole starfield should be traversing the night sky at the speed the planet rotates.

Thought that was a bit peculiar myself. :)

    Everything is broken! :p

In all seriousness though, the sky is probably one of the most important aspects of any game environment so it pays to get it right.
There needs to be a better way to light the night sky than with a spotlight behind the broken moon. I really don't like those light rays shining behind the thing that is meant to be the light source.

Great idea. A realistic sky w/ clouds and a nice moon and stars slowly moving across the sky at night really helps with the immersion.

[IMG] Cryptomancer <---<<< the Man With the Answers Yet to be Seen... and if not his, it will be similar!
Yet still this very question about the sky and stars was posed to Lord British and the answer was positive "that we would eventually see such things".

We will see a very improved sky at some point, but this is not something that really needs testing, so, we may see such things become reality when or during our public release updates. "I don't know anything for certain about this issue from the horse's mouth"... but it would seem reasonable for our Portalarium to hold back a few secret things for "the bang of it's release".
It may be an American "shock and awe" thing... but no player knows when o_O

I would also add that the shattered moons also look two dimensional.

The shattered moon needs some blending. And how do the lunar rifts work as there are no phases of the cracked moon? Also the flocks of birds need some major work and seagulls don't flock at night

Good observation Malchor1. The seagulls could turn into bats though... :)

Weregulls does sound better than Bat... Maybe "Evil Weregulls"?
Maybe the large flock could be changed to a single large evil looking bird or flock of larger creatures but with fewer of them?

Even though the shattered moons are mostly smaller fragments of both moons, they still should technically go through 'phases' since the amount of light seen on the surface is determined by the location of the sun in relation to the position of the shattered moon. So, if the sun is in complete opposition to the rock fragments, ( sun setting while moon rising ), then you should see the equivalent of a full moon with the entire visible surface lit up. And likewise, if the rock fragments are setting about an hour after the sun sets ( or the rock fragments rise about an hour before the sun rises ), then you should see the equivalent of a crescent moon, with only a small portion of the surface lit up, and the remainder darkened. The only thing you wouldn't see is the different phases of each moon (ie Felucca is full while Trammel is waning ), as both moons are now one cluster of rock. That being said, I can't see the lunar rifts working in the same way as they would have before the moons collided. Not sure how they would work with just one conglomerate of rocks.
Also, I still feel that the moon looks flat and 2 dimensional.

The night time is shorter than the day time, yet the sun is not hugging the horizon so we are also trapped in an elliptical solar orbit o_O
    Strange Physics

Maybe they will work on the physics. Seeing the moon conglomerate affected by its relationship to the sun and planet ie. shading effects would be nice but working on a quality gaming experience first trumps our lunacy lol

Agree with OP that the sky needs an overhaul and the moon looks so close you could jump up and touch it. I think if they would make the moon and its debris several times smaller it would look just fine.

I would very much like to see day/night slow down a bit and I think the moon should be a smidge smaller than it is right now. I love the way all of it looks, just a few tweaks would be nice.
