    Hi, I missed the telethon due to work but heard in the discord chat they are reworking the combat system. Does anyone know what changes are being made?

    hope it's not a super complex and difficult change that is extra hard to learn... I'm already used to the current deck system...

    From what i heard parry and block are gonna be seperate defence checks from avoidance and dodge, theres gonna be new “partial magic resistance”, and the rng for hits is being narrowed from 0.25x to 1.75x, to 0.75x to 1.25x. (Same average dmg with larger minimum dmg and lower max dmg)

    hmmm, I like that. In the few deaths I have had since persistance its always been a "well, I still have 290 hp so I'll wait until the next spell to cast heal..." then... ooOOooOOOooOoOOO

    (check text damage)... wow nice, I got crit by that mob for 300 hp and have never been hit by that mob in a thousand fights for that much.... I hate fireball.

    The other thing mentioned during the telethon is that @Chris want's to get away from absolute percentages, and move to a more arbitrary value which is then checked against the opponents value. No more will you have a 18% chance to dodge, but now you would have a dodge of 24 which is checked against your opponents skills (dex? I'm unclear on the specifics).

    It's definitely worth watching the recorded telethon to get better info the my memory!

    The key comment I heard or read since is that skills will be unilaterally set to 100% unlearn for a while. That tells me people are gonna be ANGRY.

    Some people will be angry no matter what is done, so whenever something changes he puts in to that. I wouldn't read too much into it.

    Who would be angry about free skill swap?

    I figured it would be so popular they would think about keeping it around.

    Maybe there exist specializations that are competitive with the omni-class, but experimentation is too expensive to find it. This could bring back character development.

    But do they have the right to be? These are some radical and quick changes (did they come up with them in a week) for the game 4+ years into development and a few months away from release. yar yar yar, queue the "still being developed", I think at this late point in the game thats played out. I really just hope there was a significant amount of thinking put into the changes to avoid the mass number of exploitable "math errors" that happen after this stuff.

    My understanding is that among other things:
    1) Instead of 1-100 for the combat stats (say avoidance) which is applied unilaterally across all mobs, it will be weighted against some value based on the mob
    2) Armor/Weapon durability hits will be a random chance - currently all uses/hits are a fractional durability hit
    3) Mob/boss Crit chance/damage was broken due to balance towards difficulty for high end players, being fixed
    4) All trees are getting one additional skill at/near launch

    more im forgetting...

    Thanks @sgl2586, you covered it much better then I did. That's all stuff I recall from the Telethon as well.

    Do they have a right to be? I don't know. It could be argued either way. It's certainly frustrating when a skill is altered in a way that breaks your char but, by the same token, that's why they let you unlearn when they make changes to an existing skill.

    Ultimately though, I think this will allow a more balanced and fun combat experience, even if it does require a bit more work on mobs.

    I am VERY interested to see how this pans out.
    Does this mean they are acknowledging that the mobs are doing too many critical hits and too much damage from those crits in general? I really hope so.

    What is this skill? The thing about magic resistances? Do we even know any more about this?

    Chris acknowledged it in regards to Torc/dragons. Regular mobs not directly, but if combat math is broken, its all mobs.

    No details regarding extra skill, but its one additional skill for each tree, so doubt it would be resistances. Chris seemed hesitant to even admit that there was another skill coming.
