Hi everyone! I've been sketching a rough concept of how combat pets could be further improved, as well as hopefully help mitigate the damage resistance issue! The idea behind it is that players could craft/find equipment that can be given to certain pets to improve their stats/damage/armor!

Combat pets such as the Death Summons would be able to equip standard armor and weapons. Additionally, you can give the Skeleton or Lich a Staff or wand and have them stay back and sling out spells, or a bow+arrows and have them snipe as well! The equipment for the Death Summons could be entirely player crafted armor and weapons, allowing for a huge amount of aesthetical and statistical customization! Death Summons would be able to equip any type of gear, except those attuned to Sun and Life, or "player" artifacts (Explained below).

Combat pets like the Elementals, the Wisp, and the Phoenix would be able to equip "marks" and "bindings." Bindings would function as armor, but with less aesthetical change, and marks would function as "weapon equipment" for these summons. Like normal equipment, these would be craftable, but would only be able to be used by certain pets! For example, the Fire Elemental would only be able to equip Non-attuned or Fire attuned items only, and such would be the same with the rest.

The Summoned Daemon would be able to equip craftable melee weapons and "bindings," since it wields a trident as its main weapon normally. It wouldn't be able to equip any weapons or bindings with attunement, at least not until the option to add Chaos attunement to items becomes available, though he would be unable to equip any Chaos "player" artifacts.

Combat pets from the Taming tree would be able to equip marks and barding (barding is armor tailored for animals specifically). Barding would not only be craftable, but you could also buy it from armor vendors as well! Additionally, Barding would provide some nice aesthetical changes based on the materials used to make it (Just imagine a crocodile in full plate barding). Tamed pets would be able to equip any type of mark, but would only receive 75% of the attuned benefit if the item is attuned to a specific magic tree.

Additionally, there would be "artifacts" specifically tailored to combat pets, since they would be unable to equip normal artifacts. As normal artifacts, these "petifacts (sorry)" would range in terms of power and rarity. Here are some rough ideas I've come up with! However, your pet will only be able to have one artifact equipped at any time.

Crown of the Lich: Death Summons Only, head slot. Bonuses to Intelligence, Dexterity, and Spell Damage. When Pet's health is dropped below 50% (decay or other means), it gains a temproary Death Shield effect that will also heal it whenever its Summoner is damaged.

    Eternal Flame Binding
: Fire Elemental Only, Binding. Bonus to Fire Damage and Fire DoT, as well as duration. Gains a minor regeneration effect when hit with any non water damage. Does not stack. Additionally, if hit with physical damage, deals part of the damage inflicted back onto the target as Fire Damage. The Fire Elemental must survive the strike for this effect to activate.

Horn of the Destroyer: Daemon Only, Longsword. Bonus to Chaos effectiveness, Damage, and Health, penalty to movement speed. Deals major increased damage against high virtue targets. Deals Chaos Damage instead of physical, and will randomly swap any buff on its target with a debuff and gains the buff for itself. Deals slightly increased damage per debuff on target.

Barding of the Obsidians: Tamed Animals only. Gains a massive increase in Damage Resistance to all except Fire damage. Tamed Wolves may inflict a penalty to Damage Resistance to their opponent, Bears may randomly cleanse any debuff from itself or its Tamer, Crocodiles will have a chance to root their target in place, Boars have a chance to bleed their target, Stags have a chance to randomly boost its and its Tamer's movement speed, Spiders have a chance to inflict piercing damage when attacking from behind, and Corpions have a chance to interrupt their target. Darkstarr Corpions have a chance of inflicting pure Chaos Damage, the Ancient Obsidian Bear has a chance to boost its damage whenever its Tamer is damaged, and the Ferocious Red Spider has a chance to inflict a damage penalty on its target.

What do you guys think about this concept? Would you guys like to be able to customize your pets' even more while providing better stats and abilities? Would love some feedback!

Back to the drawing board with you!

Basically they have a system where materials made of a specific type has the same kind of stats, no matter the type of armor used. As such obsidian barding would have reflect damage from the armor. It would also have s crit bonus and increased damage vs. Obsidian from the weapon component.

Hmmmm very good points and you guys just got me wondering on a point about the obsidian armor, like current Obsidian Plate's (set) 20% damage reflection... is it +200% damge on Obsidian creatures as well, like the weapons? I have never really paid attention to it or thought about it until you guys brought up the Obsidian Barding point.

I know, I just made some quick concepts. Will come back with a better rough concept once my banishment from the drawing board is over.
