Free the apostrophe!

The apostrophe,
importantly
is a part of the
identity.

A catastrophe
it would be,
my name without the
apostrophe.

It's a mystery
that the apostrophe,
cannot be
in this society.

free the mighty
apostrophe!


This prose comes as I have noticed one cannot have an apostrophe either in your name in the website (When I do my name becomes Sir Osis O\'Liver), and in the game client (where it was not an allowed character).

I know once upon a time that the evil apostrophe allowed lowborn knaves to cause mischief with databases and query languages. But we live in the 21st century now, surely one can code around it

 

I've been meaning to ask. I know of a gentleman in my area named Sir Osis d'Liver. Would you perchance know him?

Sometimes in sanitizing inputs, you remove all quotes, single or double. If ' is not permitted, have you tried `?

The webmaster should also check into the PHP magic quotes setting.

Yes, the name is meant to be a pun on the body part, not a reference to a greedy dickensian orphan

And taking enderandrew's suggestion I have tried using the "`" character instead with success! So until the apostrophe situation is cleared up (on the website and in game) this will make are excellent substitute. Thank you sir!

Technically, my name is ᛋᛁᚱ ᚾᛁᚳᚩᛚᚫᛋ ᛗᚩᚱᛏᛁᛖᚱ. However I am not sure whether the game supports Runic Unicode block. (And I think that some SotA runes are missing in it anyway). Would be cool to be different though. I would also love to be able to use runic in chat. Preferably for some semi-private conversations with people who learned them

Back on topic, apostrophe seems quite important character and even some NPCs seemed to have it (that Lich in Ravenmoor with his new name), so I think it should be available for players as well.
