Back during Ultima Online. One of my favorite decoration was a game board of some kind. Double clicking it would bring up a mini game board that one or more players could use at once and play a game of chess. It was really fun and nice having a game in a game. Has anyone heard anything like that happening in SotA? Would love to see that feature expended. Chess boards, Card Tables (for card games) and so forth!
Ah well if this has been mentioned as something there doing then i think we will atleast get chess and checkers! heheh, its strange how the small stuff can be the most funnest things and all new mmos forget the small stuff.
Hope so, liked playing against friends while enjoying a quiet moment in the tavern. Go, checkers, chess, backgammon would all be nice to see, but I'd also love to see more Britannian themed versions or games too. Make the black pieces show Obsidian warriors for pawns, siege engines for the rooks, sorcerers for the bishops; alternatively, there could be different races or cultures for the other side to show the diversity.
I'm strongly for giving any board games a New Britannian flair. While I have nothing personal again chess or checkers I do think I'd like to take a step or two away from them and have some stuff that's perhaps a little less well known. Still.. with all the avatars running around they'd no doubt bring chess and checkers with them.. I would just like to see more NB culture represented in any games they put in.
I'd love to see a 'gamble' feature added. Eg- click a box to wager something on the game, both add your wager, both accept and then the game starts, whoever wins gets the stakes. Bet you I don't have a gambling problem!!!
This is a great idea, could the possibility of Poker or a Casino be added as it's not really gambling with in game currency?
We've suggested this in the past and as Bowen mentioned, we'll at least be getting backgammon for now. It makes sense too, as backgammon is a great "good vs evil"/order vs chaos style game and could fit nicely into SotA lore. I really do hope that there is a New Britannian flair to the board games though. Spice up the presentation of the gump. I'm looking forward to playing some board/card games or dice in a shady location.
I'm really hoping for Nine Men's Morris. https://www.shroudoftheavatar.com/forum/index.php?threads/minigame-nine-mens-morris.7330/ It is a great, accessible period strategy game this is easy to learn.
I don't see any statement in that thread that we'll be getting backgammon, only a question if people are interested in backgammon. Has it been stated somewhere that the devs are definitely including a playable backgammon game (or any other mini-game) in SotA? I know there have been a couple mentions of possible crowdsourced mini-games, but I've never seen anything concrete take shape. Is anyone still tossing around that idea?
I was under the impression from that thread that it was more of a pet project. It'd go in if there was time to do it. I do think there is a high probability that a good many features will eventually make it into the game but EP1 itself must first focus on foundational features more than anything else. The more key features are done and balanced the more they'll be able to focus on content and fun "little" features like board games. Will there be time for EP1? I certainly hope so but have no idea. Will we get it if it doesn't make EP1? Probably. At least I strongly suspect so.
I think this is something someone should submit in a scene jam. I think it would add a little depth and immersion to the world having a good mini-game, but I'm not sure the Portalarium devs will fit it in their scope.
I think mini games like these would be perfect for 'scene jams'.. that the community designs for import into the game. If they are created and playable/ready to use as is, it'll be much more likely to see them in Episode 1! <+1 for tabletop mini game scene jam!>
