As I work through my adventure dungeon, I find I made a mistake doing an upgrade and now the dungeon is too hard. That's fine! I'll go back to the previous level, but those previous totems are locked up inside of this now "unusable" totem. Certainly, I can trade my way out of that totem and start gathering/bartering for what I need, but it's a burden to reacquire these pieces. It basically takes the whole community farming and trading them to come close to the dungeon pieces that you want including essence. Please add the ability to downgrade or split totems.
This wish was posted two years ago, but I think it's due for another thread. Please give us the ability to salvage totems back into essence or into lower-level totems. Yeah, I bit off more than I can chew, haha, and now have several crazy expensive high-level totems sitting around unused.

I think this is a good idea and I think I remember it being discussed before. Usually when the devs implement this type of thing you do not get all of the ingredients returned though so you still may want to ask in trade chat to see if anyone has lower level totems they are willing to trade in a more equal manner.
would have to look at how the fracture gem recipe works, in that it remembers what sort of gem you put in to know what sort of fragment to give back
