What happens to companions if you die (Offline Mode)?

I had Fiona as a companion, but unfortunately died to Mistress Valdis in the Solania Catacombs. I resurrected near the spot of the battle, but Fiona did not appear when I resurrected. She was not near where I fell, nor was she outside the catacombs. I went all the way back to the inn in Ardoris where I found her, but she is not there.

Do you lose companions permanently if they die, or if you die while grouped up with them? If not, where/how do you find them again?

 

check your inventory for a whistle.
