To get to Dara Brae. Take the Big Galleon to Mistrendur, turn left and it is the first island POT, two POTs down.

Thanks I know roughly how to get there. I'll work my way up when I get some basic skills

I really think this is stupid. They should make tax free POT water lot deeds available.

So what does it mean when a player town is besieged? I noticed that while I was walking around

Several Ebon Dawn Cultists are attacking outside the town, because of the Devotionals that are related to a virtue are in that town, based on the 8 different celestial objects that are in the sky, that are in or near a constellation related to the virtue.

You can enter the scene or bypass it, it’s your choice.

These all happen based on the celestial mechanics we have in the game.

I tried that solo. They were mean....and social. I couldn't really pull them given that they all seemed to be mages and archers. Gained a bunch of skill though

When you enter a scene, the scene name will be color coded based roughly on your accumulated skills. Green, Yellow, Orange and Red. That should give you more than enough information on how possibly dangerous a scene might be. Just fyi if you weren’t aware of that. Creatures have this color coding as well.

This color coding is however just a suggestion. You are free to enter in any scene and explore. Just be careful… ;)

I ran into a "control point" in a zone. What does that do?

In the center (generally) of a control point there is a difficult wave battle that is intended for groups. Having a group do a CP is a pretty good way to gain experience quickly.

Welcome, former UO player here as well. I honestly haven't had much experience interacting with the community in the starting areas, I feel like everyone is just focused on knocking out starting quests and either mining iron or harvesting maple wood...
