I got a new computer (Dell). I want to set up for games without all the Microsoft crud. However the setup routine forces a microsoft acct sign up. Is there a way to get off this darn sign up screen so I can continue with the installation of my browser, games and etc ? Any help appreciated. Gotta get Sota up and running lol.
Great answers, cept I cannot install linux because the computer is locked on Microsoft sign up screen. Without a microsoft sign up, I am barred from internet access, and everything else. Does this happen to everyone who buys a computer with Win 11 installed?
This was one of my larger grievances when switching to Windows 11, and it did indeed almost put me back on Linux for my primary system. Hopefully this link can be of some help to you.
Pretty sure you can get around it, but it's not obvious how. I bought a cheap laptop to travel with last year, and I was able to Google a way around it. I think it involved not connecting to the internet, and telling Windows you don't have internet, which gives you the option to set up a MS account later. Then you just never do it. (Though, that was a year ago, I suppose it could have changed since then.)
As long as you can boot from a thumb drive, you can install Linux. You might have to disable secure boot in the bios though. [edit] Personally, though, I would return it and use the money to build a PC with exactly the components I want.
Yes, don't fall for that microsoft binding local accounts to a microsoft account. Follow those google instructions above to bypass and to setup the local account.
Thanks you all. With your help I got it bypassed and all is good. Installed all my spyware, antivirus, message disabler, etc. but still looking over my shoulder. Sadly it is just us older types who can remember the freedom from all this control and spying that we enjoyed in the early days.
