If I buy a $450 Town lot deed, is that tax free?

No. Deeds in the add-on store are not tax free. Tax free deeds are only given to pledge levels that are Citizen+.

So I guess another question: When you upgrade, your original pledge gets deducted?

When you upgrade to a higher tier ? You only pay the difference, that is correct.

When I try, it gives me as a final price the cost of the actual level, without the deduction

Yes, it will deduct your current pledge from the upgrade level you select. Although it won't show until you the balance to be paid until to you authenticate into the Paypal or Amazon Payments. There will still be an additional step to confirm payment once it shows the balance due. Also, make sure you are selecting to upgrade and not start a new pledge.

Wow that could have been bad. Almost did it through the store page which would have made it a new pledge. Accounts -> Upgrade. Got it. Thanks for the help
