I am very excited about SotA, but I am not currently a member of a guild. I expect that I'll claim a tax-free lot, place my house on it, play for a while, and then later join a guild and want to relocate my home to be closer to my guildmates.

Will I be forced to sell my tax-free lot and purchase a new (possibly taxed) lot?

Can I purchase a new lot and transfer the tax-free nature from my original lot to my new lot, and then sell my old lot as a taxed lot?

My current understanding: it should work very much like the pre-alpha releases.
Main difference - in the pre-alphas there's no restriction on lot selection - anyone can claim anything. So a mad scramble:eek: In the actual game you will have an "entitlement" based on your pledge level - say for example you are entitled to a village lot.
So you find a village lot that's FOR SALE - claim it. It's yours.
Then some time later you want to live in xxyyzz town.
You Unclaim the lot. Your house disappears; your belongings are either in your backpack or otherwise preserved.
Journey to the town, find a lot that's FOR SALE.
Claim it. Still using your tax-free entitlement - you are allowed one tax-free lot.

For the transition period you will be homeless, and just hope no-one finds the lot in town xxyyzz before you get there; otherwise it should be easy.

I believe the way it is going to work is you leave your house on the lot it currently is.. then find a new lot and claim it. By claiming the new lot it frees up the other lot and moves your house and all items to the new lot. I believe they were taking this approach to keep people from leaving one lot and then having the other lot they want disappear and thus ending up with no lot! :)

I kind of prefer it the more natural way. Claiming the second lot with another deed then move your belongings. I think we are getting to far away from the natural feel of things. Seems to easy and unnatural to have all your stuff just magically appear at a new location. It needs to feel like an accomplishment to move your house.

As someone moving in real life right now. I soooooooooo would not want to have to deal with all the real life issues in game of closing on one lot before I had to close on another lot. Give us the staples easy button on this one please. :)

Then why not make all houses instanced, bank access from any house, and free crafting resources from any vendor. /sarcastic

There are many things that can be done more easy because someone doesn't like. It is not a good reason to ruin the general feel of the game. And i am not talking about immersion.

I think it is a terrible proposed idea that you will be ale to "fold" up your house and its belongings and then "unfold" it at a new location. Home ownership and moving should be a process and actually have a sense of accomplishment to do so. Easy mode makes moving an after thought and makes home ownership feel cheap to me.

How about a toggle so you can work hard and I don't have to? :)

Thanks for your responses. That makes me feel better. I'd hate to be forced to give up my tax free lot just because I found somewhere else I'd prefer to live. I'm looking forward to playing release 7 next week and if it looks promising, I'll definitely be upping my pledge level. =)

Possibly a wagon and to stand on top to hold everything in place.

My grandpa moved his house like that out of East St Louis. Only cost him $6k (Back in the 80's). It's a trip to see it going down the road and a guy on the roof lifting up power lines. lol

I'd never seen a house moved this way before I came to Canada - I think it's fascinating! Also hilarious to see a full-size house on the back of a truck... :)

I saw this one on the way home one day, waiting for the power lines to be raised - it was just up the road from my house so I rushed back with my camera to see if it was still there! Then I sent pictures to friends in the UK saying "this is how we move house in Canada!" ;)

Quite impressive. I've seen smaller structures being moved but nothing as large as that house. Couldn't have gone far that had to take up the while road.

If we end up moving all our stuff from lot to lot I hope their aren't laws regulating it. Cause mine is sooooooo going to look like this.

I really don't see how moving a house like the proposed method is a negative, its a great QoL mechanic compared to the laborious and unnecessary manual moving idea.
