I believe they said their will be communal farm land, when they introduced the immortal fruit, so that all KS members could use it. However we don't know how big these plots will be. so you may want farm guilds.

    @Duke Death-Knell

I dont understand the concept of an expert crafting station. The most a farmer might craft is his own hoe or shovel. But there are a couple things I can think of that would lend themselves to expert farmers:

    <strong>Greenhouse</strong>

A Greenhouse gets your plants an early start. That could be something a more skillful framer learns to do.

    <strong>Dutch Plow</strong>

The dutch plow was used with an horse or cow. It greatly reduced the time to til the field.
    <a href="http://www.nofa.org/tnf/fall99/dutchplow.gif" title="http://www.nofa.org/tnf/fall99/dutchplow.gif">http://www.nofa.org/tnf/fall99/dutchplow.gif</a>

    <strong>Cornsheller</strong>

Cornshellers were used to grind the corn into meal for people, or to crack the corn for animal feed.
    <a href="http://www.nofa.org/tnf/fall99/sheller3.gif" title="http://www.nofa.org/tnf/fall99/sheller3.gif">http://www.nofa.org/tnf/fall99/sheller3.gif</a>

    <strong>Butterchurn</strong>

Pouring milk into this churn gets butter. Butter was used to enhance the flavor of foods and some extra calories for more energy during your work day.
    <a href="http://www.nofa.org/tnf/fall99/churn.gif" title="http://www.nofa.org/tnf/fall99/churn.gif">http://www.nofa.org/tnf/fall99/churn.gif</a>

Anyway, those were some thoughts on more advanced 'tools' the farmer could use. You want to be careful to not put too many tools under his skill-set that he isn't baking cakes and taking the cooks job. However it does sound funny to call farming "crafting" however there are no better categories on the site for farming to go under.

Would be great to have a farm to grow herbs or veggies for food. Perhaps sell farm lots? with your house not too far away? Btw Death-Knell, are u the same fella running around in MWO in a spider?

Ok, still not clear what an expert farm is.
But got to looking at farming games.

FarmvVille 2 is what looks like the best out there.
Others that look good are Rune Factory Frontier and Harvest Moon.

So yea something like FarmVille 2 is what I'd like to see in the game.
Again the house and land problem comes up with that.
It's almost like were going to have to live in crowded areas to keep the houses from taking up all the land.

Many players are going to want a big enough area to farm.
Do they throw in thousands of more hex's for us to put houses?
Do they make some housing instanced?

I think they could do both.
We don't have to go to a hex if we don't want to.
And instanced housing works great for boats and wagons. (to keep from having to move many items at once)

And maybe even some crafting stations could be mini games.
Not sure what I think about that yet.

Vaped - I use to be the guy running around in the spider. Was a blast, terrible kill ratio but running and spinning and firing with the machine guns was a blast. Was thinking bout coming back and trying again. Even bought a blackjack and configured it.

Jon - every plot will have a field for farming...I think that's what they said. It doesn't count as a crafting station as farming isn't a skill. You'll be able to grow whatever you want, immortal fruit as well as ingredients for food.

What I'm asking is that the field be upgradeable even sacrificing one of my crafting stations and that it be able to improve crops either production or quality and maybe even make unique crops for different professions.

Yea in town I can see making your house smaller for more land.

I'm going to go against my last statement because there are seasons in this game.
After looking at some of the other farming games it looks better to know how farming works.
When to plant, when to harvest, what soil to use, what weather conditions are best, escaping natural disasters etc.

In those games the NPC's gave advice on these things so you knew what your doing.
Since I know nothing about farming, playing something like this might even teach me something.

Plus it would be nice to see all the colors changing according to the different seasons.

I can see some upgrades though.
    Aquaponics - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CYNUOZpIOUY

I'm thinking this would be an expert farm.
    Food Forest - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5ZgzwoQ-ao

But like I said I think farms need more space and maybe they should add some more hex's for that.

Death Knell, i was in match with you..and was very irritated with you running around and shooting..:)

Regarding farming, a bit of LOTRO farming and farmville would be nice. In lotro one have to find a farm...throw the seeds..and wait for it to grow...usually a couple of mins i think...but farms there are public farms. Rentable farms? perhaps farm lots can be instance? to save "space"?

Well I believe they were already talking about having public farm fields so everyone who wanted to could farm not just home owners. I was only speaking of treating house farms as upgradeable workbenches if the owner so chose.

MWO- yeah I do that. Had a team of 7 chase me down and kill me cause I irritated them. That and I was the last one on my team alive.

Maybe the expert farm stations could be about processing the grain or fruit ect., like a wind mill to crush the grain, if the property was not next to water it would be a wind mill, while properties next to water could be water mills, water mills could also be used for other things in game as well.

Other processes could be like drying out grain before putting it up in a grain house ect.

Well the expert farms would be akin to any expert machine. Could be something as simple as an overhead sprinkler system to make sure everything gets water. Wouldn't be too hard to do even in a low tech scenario.

pumping the water would be the trick back then... I just don't see sprinkler systems making sense. irrigation is what they used before indoor plumbing.

Overhead watering system would be easy. Small water tower above pipe level. Fill water tower with buckets and then it would just take a lever to open and close the valve. If no piping exists use small wooden troughs with smaller holes. Easy as pie.

That makes no sense. Why would a villager haul buckets of water up a water tower instead of just tossing it in their field? (like they actually used to do). The Sprinkler itself is a complex and difficult thing to craft, especially with medieval tools.
unless you were picturing more of just a watering can spout.

Yes. I could see a villager taking a bucket of water over and over again to cover an acre of land. irrigation is fine if you have a natural source to run off of. If not it would take many more buckets as your irrigation ditch would absorb a lot of your work.

And it is very simple to do, just takes some wood planks and some tar or other sticky substance. If you have the tech to build the stuff Stephens been drawing you can do it with ease.

Also we are talking "expert" only, not every farm.

I doubt they want to get to complicated on this.
    Here is one watering system.

But I think we will get a bucket to fill with water and then use on plants.

I would expect it to be more of horticultural with a precedence to growing in pots troughs etc; the amount it will produce each cycle will be down to your skill and any added growing medium,
this may be made up by alchemists or you may get a good soil extract for growing crops during mining or come across it during travels in the wilderness.
