I did not interest myself in magery yet, so no idea if spells using Mandrake root are allready in game. Anyway, is not it a little bit too restrictive : "Mandrake roots spawn only in swamp areas at full moon nights" ? Yet i have about 100 Sulfurous ash and Nightshade, tons of garlic, some Spider silk but never found any mandrake.
You can buy it from vendors. I can't remember if I've seen it in the wild before. It doesn't matter, just buy it from vendors. No spells require reagents in pre-alpha. If you use reagents they make spells cost less focus. Reagents don't really mean a whole heck of a lot right now.
Thanks, it's just that i am a compulsive gatherer So...i'm not going to look for tons of Mandrake, for sure, hé hé
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=351218950 I found some in Northmarsh, but it was kinda pure luck. Thereafter i tried to find some more, but could not locate other plants. But it was not night time and no idea what period of the moon. I found Snake scales as well...but looting by a corpse in the dark, so i could not see where it came from http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=351219072
There is a name for this condition "Hooveritus" the compelling need to vacuum up every possible item from a scene or level. There is no known cure or therapy but the condition isn't particularly harmful once the character has sufficient survival skills.
Actually, you do need mandrake to cast level 3 and higher spells (i.e., like death field) Otherwise, the glyph is grayed out on your combat bar and not available for use.
Nope. I just logged into the game right now and tried it. I have no reagents and can cast Death Field at will.
All nights are full moon nights, right? I won't try to think about how that would work in real space. And I do love our shattered moon floating across the sky at night - wouldn't want that changed. Also, technically, isn't Night Shade a night blooming plant, ergo the name? But we can luckily find it in the game during the daylight hours!
Hmm...so why was my death field glyph grayed out? Must check this out tonight (as I 've been spending a fortune on reagents...)
I've never had any trouble casting spells without reagents. I wish I did. All spells should require them.
Hmm..personally, I prefer the original plan - tier 3 and higher spells (which will presumably become much more powerful when they balance everything) would require reagents. Low level spells, such as light and heal touch (which pretty much everybody will be using ) should not require reagents. Certainly when encumbrance kicks in, a mage will not be able to carry around hundreds of reagents to cast high level offensive spells on a regular basis...just like as an archer I wouldn't be able to carry around 2000 arrows...
i have not been able to cast with out reagents either and i have heard others tell me that they had never used a single reagant, perhaps one side of this isle is bugged, ..... is it to soon for a vanilla sky quote? "TECHNICAAAALL SUPPORT!"
Indeed. I've never been able to cast tier 3 and higher spells without reagents since they first introduced them into the game. (This is what the developers intended ) Perhaps there is a bug in the system
I've been using the Death Field spell in R13 to great effect without mandrake root. When I create or edit my deck with "Y", I do notice that the name of the spell is grey in both the create deck window and in the Glyphs window and have wondered why.
Some of the better spells take reagents, I believe it shows this in the skill window under said glyph. The first spell like in the Fire magic doesn't take reagents, but Fireball does. Granted, haven't actually tried casting it without reagents. Reagents are expensive!
