Leather Goods

Hello!

I am hoping you good people might be able to inform me of my mistake.

I am keen to make some leather clobber for myself. Now I thought it was a try it and see what you discover type deal with crafting. However, aided by the wiki I placed the mats for leather bracers but didn't get the craft option. I believe this is due to 1 of 4 things. Please, does anybody know which?

1. My skill isn't high enough.
2. I actually need to learn that pattern by buying one of the scrolls.
3. A mixture of 1 & 2 or
4. Wiki is wrong with the mats.

Agree it's probably #4.. not that the bracers are really worth the effort right now anyway.

 

Skills for anything beyond crafting aren't implemented yet, so it isn't #1 or #3, and I've never bought recipes and always been able to craft anything so unlikely to be #2.

But there is a 5th option. Recipe may have been removed from game (no way to craft currently).

Yes I know that would make #4 accurate... but misleading as no recipe may be able to make it if #5 is correct.

i believe the wiki is out of date and gloves gauntlets and bracers aren't in as far as crafting goes for R15

 

Outdated recipes is certainly possible; also I think it was R14 when leather armour recipes stopped using 'leather' and started using 'yards of leather' - which is a tanning recipe requiring 5 'leather' and a chunk of salt. So it might be that you have the correct recipe, but were using singlet leather rather than yards.

I hope crafting will become less prescriptive before release, when it come to things like this - there have already been multiple ways to craft certain items, e.g. at one time hard leather could be crafted from normal leather, or from animal hides, or from animal hide scraps. If you have enough leather to make the armour, I don't see the point in combining to yards before cutting them up again, but if yards are easier to store (for example) then it's good to have both options.

 

I have a question: I have recipes for Hardened Leather and Supple Leather, both which require Leather.

How do I make Leather?

 

I've been having the same problem. I've been reading up on it and understand it used to work. I 'believe' there are recipes which have been messed up (or simply changed) since the R15 release. I haven't found any further details I'm afraid but am still looking.

 

you take animal hide and CRAFT
it into leather.

 

Hmmm... I have 6 animal hides on the tanning station. I even place my tanning knife on the tanning station. The CRAFT button never lights up.

I figured I had done something wrong. Added a couple chucks of salt, tried adding far. Nothing so far. :/

 

1 chunk of salt, 4 hides, and a Tanning Knife.
It should be in your Book .

 

Or when absolutely stumped visit the recipe sellers.

 

Ok I think I see the problem.

I've crafted Iron Ingots for other recipes (for example) and am noticing if I grab say 7 Iron Ore the CRAFT button will not light up. However I have a group I grab of 4 then it lights up just fine.

I'm seeing the same problem with crafting leather. I'm grabbing 31 animal hides which obviously it's not happy with. Is there some way to just grab 4 of my 31 animal hides from the Inventory? You know. Split it up into groups of 4 hides so I'm not taking all 31 at a time?

I've tried double clicking on the animal hides to see if it will ask me for a number to type. Nothing so far.

Oh and I'm not seeing a recipe for leather in the vendor btw and nothing in the book. Just supple leather and hard leather

you have a Recipe Book. most basic crafting is in there
check your B command button

 

Well... Ok.

Under tanning it didn't show up in the recipe book until AFTER I created my first pair of leather.


Here's how I solved the problem.

While at the tanning table, I held shift and moved the large number of animal hides I had to invoke the prompt asking for a number of hides I wanted. I entered 4 then dragged the 4 hides to the tanning table along with the salt and tanning knife. The craft button light up and now I see the recipe in my recipe book.

I appreciate the patience. Seems it was a glitch or something. Don't have an explanation but it's there now.

well it could be i have a higher pledge than you and it was in my book but not yours. And you can always buy the recipes.

I don't even have one of those fancy titles yet but it's still in my recipe book so, yes. Please visit the recipe vendors in owl's head - the one in the middle of the three recipe seller had it, I think?
