It's the crunchy part of a spider. I'd look for spiders I could skin, if I weren't afraid of them.

They like to take off their clothes and hang them up in the bushes. :p

Naw, you just need to volunteer to do their laundry for them - in the bushes.

I'm with you, Sir Frank... I don't like anything with more than four legs (except a conga line).

So far I have only found them in cotton plants, especially within eye-distance of spiders. For example, in Deep Ravenswood, to the left of the entrance are a bunch of wolves (spiders are further ahead of them). If you kill a few and then go for the bush, you will harvest one. However, if you try to get the cotton and spider carapace without killing the wolves first, you just get cotton. The harvesting of the spider carapaces is inconsistent like getting silver and gold.

A spider carapace mixed with cotton or leather will give you a +2 magic bonus that is great for a mage build.

Killing the wolves shouldn't have any effect on the successful harvest of spider carapace. It's a rare drop, so you won't always get it regardless.

Does anyone know if carapace can still be obtained from skinning spiders? I remember it used to be, but since R16 I've only found it on cotton plants so far. Maybe I'm hunting the wrong kind of spiders.

If being near spiders freak you out, then maybe try a desert scene like the ones in hidden vale. They've got scorpions that are apparently related to spiders, so the bushes be plentiful - maybe? Only managed to harvest 2 cotton bushes for 2 carpace before the bugs squashed me.

Why on earth is spider carapace rare? Surely they should drop on spiders, and it's a requirement to make *regular leather*, not magical obsidian rings of the zodiac

Drop rate seems to be very low. How many recipes need this now?

    Hardened Leather +Dam Avoid
    Carpacian + Magic Damage

Strictly speaking it is a requirement for making a second tier item : Hardened Leather.

"Regular Leather" itself does not require any special materials.

    ----

That being said, once we do have "Magical Obsidian Rings of the Zodiac", I can't imagine how rare those materials are going to be. :p

Right, but the difference is still cream and butter, not cream and plutonium
