Hey folks! I am currently working in China (hence the title) and I am unable to connect to SotA anymore. One older versions of hte game I could but recently whenever I try to log in I get the error message "[ALTAIR9000] Network connection closed by client" I have my VPN running as usual and I am using an Alienware 17 with extra ram, so it should work (It has in the past) but something happened where I cannot connect any longer.

    Any help would be fantastic!

Are you familiar with tools like Wireshark or Fiddler?

You should be able to see what IPs and ports the client is trying to use.

I've only dabbled with wireshark once or twice but you have some really informative video tutorials on YouTube and ofc read manuals. I usually need to do both before I start to grasp things :p

    Hi,

Did your game client update the game to R20? I will assume that it did because you indicated that you are trying to log in.

As of the last time I tested connectivity to Shroud of the Avatar(I have not played R20 yet but these worked with R19) you need to be able to access the game server on the following ports:
    TCP 5074
    UDP 3544
    UDP 6881
    UDP 5054
    UDP 5055
    UDP 5056
    UDP 5057
    UDP 5058
    UDP 5059

You will need to ensure that your proxy will pass the traffic over those ports.

Try running without VPN. I've had no trouble with China accessing anything SotA related without the need of a VPN. (i only need VPN to access the google DOCs & hangouts, youtube and facebook and twitter links.)

Hey hey.. shutting off the VPN did the trick... which is odd since I needed it one to install the game... ah well, it is working now. Thanks Miracle Dragon!

At this point, I'd try posting this in the bug/feedback forum. Devs are actively reading that right now, and may be needed to troubleshoot further.

i'm thinking maybe a Mod should just move this whole thread to that forum, it has some great info in there, they should see, for proper troubleshooting and RCA of an issue like this.

Thats a great idea! I suppose I should have started the thread there in the first place. Sorry.
