he is just using an example. He is not using factual numbers. His point is to express that with this system there will be more pvp in an instance than with segregated servers.

Anyone giving numbers on player base is only giving number to support their statements. Unless they can predict the future.

5 mil was used for the mental picture.

I think this shows a basic misunderstanding of PVE mentality. Imagine your girlfriend wants to take you shopping with her. She loves shopping, and wants to share that happiness. She feels that shopping is a great experience, and is only improved when others come along. You on the other hand would rather go to the dentist than be dragged around looking at shoes and handbags. Your refusal to participate isn't because you are afraid of shops, or lack consumer skills. It's because it doesn't interest you at a fundamental level.

Same with PVP. PVP doesn't interest me at a fundamental level.

Have you ever gone shoe shopping with your girlfriend?

7 hours, 19 stores, a speeding ticket, 3 close calls with elderly people and a crossing guard, and hour of weeping (mostly me) and the start of an ulcer. All for a pair of shoes that she wore ONCE for 2 hours for a bridal shower for someone she really didn't like.

So I am with Womby - dentist visit would have been more enjoyable.

As for PvP, I don't mind PvP and will do it when it when the mood strikes, but most of the time it doesn't interest me.

Griefers will have the highest kill counts and best K/D ratios.

A ranking system where you get no points for killing the weakest players, and a lot of points for beating the best is the way to go.

I believe Chris said he would like to add a ranking system.

You can tie PvP rewards to ranking as well (custom titles, custom vanity gear, emotes, whatever) that create incentive to partake.

I totally agree. If PVP in the game is only about kill counts, that is just pretty...dull. Hopefully the team continues to improve upon the strategic reasons for PVP that could be more game-lore driven.

I'm all for incentive in PVP. I agree that a visible k/d ratio is one approach that might work for some.

My only disagreement is that a k/d ratio (or any mathematical equation) is not the reason I PVP.

I'm much more interested in PVP for in-the moment team play, team goals, strategic purpose, influencing game world, etc. etc. than an individual statistic.

PVP ladders just aren't that meaningful except for those who can play all the time, really.
