I posted this in the wrong forum, so I'm trying again. My apologies.

Anyway one small detail that could lead to enormous variety in the game world would be the ability to dye parts of your house.

Things you could dye.... Doors, roofing, walls, trim. All lore friendly of course. The world becomes much more varied over night. Should be easier than modeling a bunch of new houses and buildings.

This sounds cool. But no pink, orange, yellow or light blue houses...

    Doors, roofing, walls, trim
This is a good idea, I think.

But it should cost a lot of money and a lot more time to rebuild all the houses for this...

    But I like it.

I see the dyes being more limited then the clothing dyes, because you would absolutely want the colors to be realistic. I can't imagine this being much more difficult than building out new buildings and assets. You could use what you've already made and do new texturing with all the colors. Of course you would have to code the logic behind being able to select what you want to dye. But even if you could just start small like with roofs and walls would make a huge difference. The world would drastically have more character.
