Also, Tiny Homes are supported in-game via outhouses and crypts (which can have basements).

 

It's been an option since Basements were first introduced. One of the lots in my town will have a Greenhouse and planter beds and nothing else other than a hatch to the Basement... They would put the hatch in a Garden shed, but that's not possible as the Garden Shed isn't decoratable. Have you confirmed that a hatch can be placed in a Crypt?

I know of another person who is going to have a Village Ring of Stones on their lot above ground, and live in their basement.

I see this as a good thing, providing options. Do you disagree?

Nope, just a shell and roof. There is no floor. So, decoration or not, you can still put a basement hatch inside it.

Yup. My current "house" is my crypt and it has the basement inside it. You can see it in Wizard's Rest, where the OP picture was taken in fact. Access is public.

 

Also, hatches do not have to be placed on ground floors; they can be placed in an attic if you want; they are "magical". What I would love to see is being able to place the hatch on a wall.

 

Really? Might want to report that one as a bug... though it may have been made that way intentionally so they could be used on Boats.

 

This reminded me of 'The Hatch' from Lost. Season 2 Episode 1. If only exploring someone's hatch could have that much drama.

My lot is the family's garden, so I've tucked my hatch under a tree. After all where do you think trap door spiders & lawn gnom... kobolds live!

 

I think the current 'magical' aspect of placing hatches in attics and on boats is a temporary 'feature' due to the iterative process of game design. This will most likely stop working in the future. That said, perhaps they could sell special 'magical' hatches in-game and maybe from the add-on store that allow such functions.
