    Crafting
    • Gems: Adding a gem to a weapon now unlocks specific enchantments related to the gem’s school of magic in addition to increasing attunement to the magic school. For example, adding a Necromancy Gem allows you to add Life Drain to your sword. Note that Gem Socketing is now permanent and can no longer be changed at will.
this was on the the patch notes .

how dose one get Life drain on the weapon ?
it gave me the attainment but not the life drain.

and what is the actual procedures of getting the life drain enchant?

It is a random choice that can pop up in your list of 3

As an example I put a sorcery gem into 3 weapons and then enchanted them:

First weapon I was offered the 3 usuals: STR INT FOCUS
Second Weapon I was offered 2 usuals and something new: INT DEX IGNITE
Third weapon I was offered something new but also different: DEX STR FIRE DAMAGE (Flat 2.5% buff to fire damage)

This is with enchanting lvl 80+ so the resuts are random

I don't think so. The damage seemed to be about half of a lvl 1 spell wether you were untrained in the skill or high level in it. I've only had very limited testing though :)

Good question! I haven't got there myself yet but hopefully someone can answer this conclusively later :)

Just as a note the two spells would have to be from the same tree (the spell offered is based on the tree corresponding to the gem). So for example IGNITE + FIRE DAMAGE could go together but not IGNITE + LIFE DRAIN

tested a banish undead proc and it was doing around 16-34 damage to skeletons in north ravenswood. the proc says On Hit: (100%) Banish Undead.. but it was proc-ing maybe 1 out of 8 (?) attacks with a staff. proc damage that low isn't too useful against 1400hp elite undead, would like to see the damage raised a bit to make melee characters more interesting...not sure how you do that without making archers OP.

Unless you say...the proc is only applied to a weapon that makes contact with it's opponent, and in the case of bows that is the arrows, not the bow itself. So maybe different types of enchants for bows but melee weapons get procs?

Also not sure if the proc damage is based off my INT or existing skills but they are: 57int, banish undead lvl 41 (0-95 dmg), life attunement 69

will try and test more procs soon

made 3 swords with necro gems and managed to get only Death Ray damage up 15% on all 3. no life drain or hit spells. maybe just rng badness.

I'm actually thinking that the bonuses on weapons just boost damage with spells and don't actually give the weapon any special actions.

I say this because I enchanted a sword that I put rubies on and it gave me +2.5 fire damage which is useless to me as I do not use magic. I was hoping the enchantment would allow the sword to do fire damage or something else that would benefit a melee fighter. If you're melee then I'd stick with the non-magic enchantments.

NO you can only add one type of gem, even to one that can have 2 gems.

The only enchant I have seen in necromancy is +15% Death Ray damage. What does this mean? Do it mean +15% drain damage when I strike with my weapon or +15% damage when I cast Death Ray? I would really like an authoritative answer to this question.

Wow. More random where it's the most punitive? Terrible design.
