i think that NPC vendors must be give money to city owner...
this type of taxes are usually on all the world..

if you want to BIU items from players.. you have to pay taxes.

this maybe can give more money for city development...

some cities are located near to PVE zones with a lot of loots... if owner can make money just improving access to NPC vendors... (for example now .. some cities have a very fast entrance to the river/sea docks) probably he do taht and with money he can improve the city.

I can't help thinking it is not virtuous to suddenly give the wealthiest part of the community an unexpected windfall, regardless of what some on Earth may think is a good idea.

Think of the NPC merchants as "loss leaders." You pay to have them in your town, but they don't make any money for you. Instead, you upsell nearby with your own vendors.

With 60+ claimed lots in the town tied to my account I would not want this.

Muddy the waters. We can just collect donations if we want to buy something.

Considering POTs are "rare" in the sense that you can't buy them from Port anymore, nor do they all have overland access, this woukd just be pay to win favoritism at this point.

NPC vendors are gold sinks in a basic sense.

Also, all POTs are not created equal as far as purpose for existing. Some are to house people, some are to house Player story plot, some are to act as movie lots...

    I vote No

    Bad idea, no need

POT owners have ways to make money, game does not need to help them.

The only way I could see this being a good idea is if the money went to the community that was shopping there and not to the Governor. Say some sort of buff to the city that enhances the city for it's residences. It could still be a big money sink or a bigger one if players have to work towards goals. Like buying defenses or guards that protect the cities if they are under siege. It would also help the POT set themselves apart depending on which thing they work to buy together. It would work if the goals can't be all bought together thus preventing super rich cities from getting all the buffs simply for being rich. You could even have it not related to gold at all but to amount of time players spend doing things in the city. Like a beautification action where the players spend time cleaning up garbage around the city to gain a buff.

If I was a POT owner I would force everyone to a into my protection plan. Protection from me randomly evicting them.

This is a bad idea for a lot of reasons,it will never happen and it should never happen.

Hey i really didn't expect THIS topic to pop up again.
It was discussed in earnest after the PoTs were introduced.

If we want to introduce something like that i think we should do it different.
I think we should let the governor decide if he wants to tax vendors and lots and by how much.
And after that we will let sort competition it out.
We have MUCH more potential space than we have players. I predict that almost nobody would raise a tax at all. Maybe the bigger guilds in accordence with their members to finance projects for their Metros but thats about it.

All of this has happened before, and will happen again.

    The answer is still No.

Can't disagree with that. But right now POT owners get quite a lot of NPC stuff for free. "What if" they did not and could not buy it in the add-on store either? "What if" they have to spend in game gold to get things for the town and to upgrade the town. I think that would be really cool and justify the OP proposition. Alas, that is probably a different game altogether. But it would bring a new aspect of realism to the game. I am certain existing owners would not be willing to lose what is currently free for any reason, especially since they paid so much for it in the first place. If only POT's were never sold and instead the entire concept was part of the game dynamic.

Then they would just buy the gold to get the items. Great idea for a gold sink though ;)
