Agreed!

Full looting should be a part of the game regardless of the final pvp system.
Nothing more boring and pointless then trivial death.

This is a VERY good conversation that should be had. Why?

Let's say you accept a quest that you know you are carrying an item that flags you for PvP combat, or know that entering a certain town/dungeon/PoI is PvP enabled.....

What then?

A) If you die, you are FREELY lootable by anyone. Everything on your corpse is lootable, from your sword to your skivvies. Looking at someone's corpse doesn't flag you as a criminal but as soon as you start poking around in their pockets or take something, you know you will turn Gray. RUN! Run and TRY to get away from anyone that noticed your crime.

B) You are dead and the item you were trying to transport is lootable as well as a certain % of gold. This would at least allow people that aren't proficient in PvP to at least try and complete the quest. More opportunities to complete it but without as much risk as Option A.

What say you, oh future Avatars?

Option: A
...and with serious repercussions for being a looter, both in Virtue and in criminal punishment. Duels & Self-Defense should be marked differently, of course: Not looting the person who attacked you and lost, should see a boon to Karma, while recouping the lost resources (components, potions, ammo, etc), even by fully looting your assailant, should not bear a player ill. Attacking a player should play havoc with karma, and actually murdering them should always drive you into negative numbers, in "Honor" if nothing else. Agreed-upon "Duals" should see a zero-loss/zero-gain result, karmicly , to the winner, looting or not.

Perhaps a "Field of Honor" that suspends karma & criminal-law, when entered?

One consideration for the crafters in the game. You guys should be rooting for a full loot system. When an Anti-PK guy like me dies, where do you think I am going to be getting my armor/weapons/potions/etc from when I resupply?

You on the other hand, will be glad to know there are forces of good, available for hire at reasonable rates, for caravan escort duty, and personal protection.

If your going to murder someone and take their shoes than you should not be allowed in towns or any other form of stable civilized areas or the guards will kill you. Mabye have another town where criminals can lurk or have a way to pay of bountys to be forgiven for your crimes.
While killing people and taking thier stuff is fun. There is a social order in the game that should respond to that I would hope.

I mentioned in another thread that is would be nice for there to be some multiplayer settings. If the game will be populating your world then a few flags could be used to filter who shows up and what is capable.

If PVP is flagged then PVP is enabled everywhere and only other PVP players would flow in. This would allow open world pvp and looting for those that want it without having to restrict when and where PVP can happen as an arbitrary thing.

Also those that don't want PVP can still play without being restricted to single player. Sounds like best of both worlds.

From someone who lives in a remote location with reasonable lag, there is nothing worse than walking along happily minding your own business and exploring. Then spotting someone out of the corner of your eye, and before you know it you are dead on the ground and everything you own has been stolen (looted).
Sure you may have a few gold pieces in the bank or storage, but it is now going to take days of effort to get a sword, armour and the provisions you need to go adventuring again.

While I do like the loot system as a form of death penalty, I think there needs to be some limits to prevent adventurers from loosing everything they own, simply due to the fact they don't have super fast internet and live further away from major cities than some PKrs.

I am of the opinion that full looting is acceptable. Here is why: meaningful consequences. I agree with those who have said it is unpleasant to be fully looted, and it is a sad moment when you run back to your PKed corpse to find nothing.

However ... (thankfully there is a "however"), this makes the game more enjoyable in the long-haul when you know the possibility exists for you to lose and lose big, but you haven't. It makes your interaction with players more polite because anyone can attack and kill you. It makes you think twice, in other words.

I respect the rights and opinions of those who don't like this, but it is what made UO much more enjoyable than let's say ... World of Warcraft. UO and Shadowbane had a nice quality in common: real consequences and rewards.

Thanks for reading, and I've enjoyed the discussion so far!

So if I gank you for your shoes, then change the laces and clean them up, how will you know that those are your shoes? If the npcs don't see me do it, then how would they know? There most be witnesses to the crime or at least some kind of evidence that one committed the crime in order for the accused to be found guilty. Karma, however, is an entirely different thing as you carry it around inside you.

I am all for full loot, not specifically for the PvP iniative but simply as it will channel the economy, the power of items and the general essence of the material world of the game in the right direction. It will also mean that you have to play smart; if you venture too far into somewhere you shouldn't, good luck getting your gear back. Even in Ultima Online post Trammel, item sinks existed through the loss of unretrievable gear and this is a feature I've missed ever since.

I do however think that a number of people are abit disillusioned about what the game itself is proposing to be:

A large quantity of PKs left UO when Trammel was invented. Imagine how many would have left if players could choose who they played with and who they didn't?

Offer people the choice between full loot and no full loot (i.e choosing not to play with PvP flagged players) and you're going to have a great deal of bored Darkfallers and old school UO PKs with nobody to kill. I'm finding all the same threads I saw on the Mortal/Darkfall forums for the past decade and it should be clarified that this isn't an MMORPG.

The players hold all the PvP switches and this more than likely will not be the Felucca you are looking for. I wish it was.

People that don't want to be PVP will then just go into Single Player or Friend mode and you will lose them anyway. The Single player mode will effectively become a flag, or PVP in the game will be restricted in some fashion.

I think adding the PVP flag option will allow people to get hooked on the Full Online mode and try out PVP then just avoiding it or the game altogether. I think PVPers underestimate the amount of people that want to PVP. Most of the solutions are to gank PVP or chase away players that don't want it. A flag would allow people who want this feature to group together.

PVPing people that don't like it just mean and sadistic: effectively its virtual **** and muggings. You might say its a game, but people deserve to experience the best this game has to offer minus the things they don't.

Don't worry, you will be able to gank me whenever you want. :)

Do really like the idea of full looting. Players shouldn't be carrying their entire fortune anyways. It might be nice if the player's armour was scrapped though, or badly damaged and in need of repair.

Also, equipment should be heavy. So, even if you wanted, you can't carry all of your stuff. This way, one person probably can't carry all the loot from your body, unless he has a hand cart or a pack mule, and that would make them vulnerable too. Games where you're carrying a dozen suits of full armour are kind of ridiculous.

I'd also like to see it so that you can't carry unreasonable things in containers. You can't fit a sword or chest plate in your backpack. If you're not wearing it, you have to hold it in your hands.

Along with that, when you DO put something in your bags, or into a cart or pack mule, that bag should visibly change. Every character should either have a backpack on their character's back, or not have a backpack inventory, and that backpack should look stuffed when it is stuffed.

Given that limit, there should be pockets for those who don't wear backpacks all the time, that can store small things like a gold pouch. But, not a ten foot pole, or a bale of hay.

If they ignore the encumberance, bag size, and so on, then I hope they at least put in a good story-reason why everybody has magical bags of holding, even when they're naked.

Likewise, to ease the burden, I'd like to see equipment like the original UO, where there was little difference between equipment. That way when you lose something common, like a sword, you don't feel like you spent a long time getting a magic sword; you just get another sword. But also, if you DO have and use a special, magical sword, the weight issue I mentioned will encourage a thief to steal just that, and leave the rest!

UO wasn't the same once trammel showed up. Always-on non-consensual PVP (and pickpocketing) is something i've been wanting for a long time. I'll admit there's nothing worse than losing all the equipment you spent days acquiring, but that was part of the thrill. I'm all for limiting the amount of items you can loot through an encumbrance system, however, so that it would be less likely that once you got back to your corpse, there was nothing left. But there should be a penalty for dying, and becoming a completely lootable corpse just seems right to me.

I don't mind the looting so much as long and the loot is properly weighted. A PK will not be able to steal all of your stuff since it will weight too much to take in one swoop. Mostly they'll get your gold or maybe a couple of pieces of armor.

Your stuff + Their stuff = Immobile and soon to be dead PK when you get back!

I do think that there should be an option for a player to opt out of PvP though, it's not for everyone and the more players in the game the better for the overall health of the game. PvPers might not like it, but they aren't the only ones paying for the game.

Oh and if there is not looting, then perhaps there should be a heavy damage penalty to the equipment, maybe 25% durability or something.
