I have a couple of store-bought clothing items and never use them. I considered salvaging them to obtain eternal patterns so I can apply them to my armor, but I want to be sure I know how they work first.

I know that I can modify the appearance of my cloth chest armor using an eternal cloth chest piece pattern.

I am not sure what it means when the description in the add-on store says:

Please note that this forfeits all of its protections from destruction and PVP loot-ability.

The loot-ability part is clear, but it is not clear to me under what circumstances the pattern is destroyed.

I think "eternal" means that if I salvage my worn out chest piece, I will get the eternal pattern back again and can then use it again to modify the appearance of a new chest piece. But does the pattern also wear out with the armor and eventually get destroyed?

when you apply an eternal pattern to a normal item and you salvage the normal item after using it you will get the eternal pattern back and you can apply it to another normal item...

eternal means you can use it forever and swap it to all the new gear as it wears out.

It means the item that it's applied to will still suffer a reduction to the maximum durability.

patterns do not decay, but you have to destroy the item to get pattern back

asked a few times if possible to remove patterned with out destryoying, but I understand why not logically, but it is a game?

    This isn't correct.

    @Kara Brae

OK thanks everyone! I think I understand now. The pattern itself isn't destroyed, but the normal item it is applied to is still subject to wearing out and having its usefulness destroyed. I was afraid that the pattern itself might also degrade along with the normal item it is applied to and eventually disappear. It wouldn't be eternal then, though, would it? :)

It means that you can sell the item to an NPC and lose your eternal pattern. You can also lose it if you're flagged for PvP (from death or stealing).

If the item gets destroyed through salvaging or a failed enchant/masterwork attempt then you get the eternal pattern back. If you reshape the item again then you also get the eternal pattern back.

I think that some store items like the Elven Kinsman buckler (is also a light) lose their special quality (light) when you break them down for their eternal pattern. The light (i think) doesn't transfer over when you overlay the eternal pattern over a crafted small shield.

what about the Quest gear Helm of love, etc. Do they have a pattern that can be used on other armor?
