So I'm completely stuck because I can't advance my new character's Courage questline, due to this stupid Level 4 siege on Resolute. I just watched 5 people get their asses handed to them by the occupying forces, and very few people respond to requests for help so far back in newbie-land.

Right now, there are 5 people sitting around the town, hoping that a high-level person will be nice enough to come help clear out this siege.

    Not cool, guys.

Depending on your level, you can simply run through them. There's a path through the siege on all of them I think.

I get what you are saying, I don't get the whole siege idea at all. However, seriously you can just run through. Its a speed bump is all.

Can’t you just bypass the siege by going Resolute through Soryn Fields? And vice versa.

Go to Soryn Fields (it’s right next to Resolut). After the town loads up, take the red wagon to Resolute. That takes you to the exit of the Siege map, and you can enter Resolute.

Or run through the center bridge battle where all the mercenaries will kill all the cultists on/by the bridge.

Near the blocked burning wagons, to the left is a spiked area where you can get to the bridge. You may need to scout the area first and wait for the mercenaries to be there.

At low levels you automatically are sent to Resolute.

easy to just run thru the siege you do not have to engage - also there are "side" paths in the sieges oyu can run around them.

I ended up just running through it. But the basic point is that there shouldn't be something like this on the SECOND MAP out of the Intro scene. People are still learning the game, and running into a death trap when you're still getting the hang of the game mechanics is a surefire way to turn someone off of the game permanently.

If you're THAT early in the game you'll be "escorted" through the Siege (i.e. it will give you the notice then load the city and skip the siege). If it dumps you in the Siege, then the game thinks you are at least skilled enough to run through the bypass pathways. It can be rough for a while but it gets easier.

The sieges' frequency is more of an annoyance than just the fact that they happen.

With the changes in quests and rewards in the Outskirts, it might be possible that players might have gotten high enough levels such that they cannot skip the siege.

Yeah. With the double XP they are probably a lot higher level than usual. They can however use the visit to Soryn Fields trick to completely bypass it though.... ;)

Quite possible. In this case the other option, and one they'll end up getting used to, is to wait it out on the overworld screen. It will make good preparation for the amounts of waiting that's done for the Rift to cycle to the desired destination.

All 3 of you are correct........
    However.....
How the hell is a new player supposed to KNOW that he can just run thru it, and how is he/she supposed to KNOW which way to run to get thru it ?
THAT, it seems to me, is the larger issue.

Personally,I think the scout should give a clue.

When the player types help, the scout should tell the player to try the short cut where it’s safer for him.

They changed that in R52. Now when going from one town into a besieged town, it takes you right into the town.

You experiment and try different approaches, like I did discovering the Soryn Fields trick.... ;)

That’s what makes this game great.

Most newer folk I run into don't realize the best way to head through a hills siege is to go down under the bridge - that you can't get hit by the catapults down there and the mobs are pretty easy (100-200hp). It would be nice if the scout gave them a clue or there was a signpost giving an indication. Normal inclination is not to run down into a gulley where you see a bunch of mobs.

Likewise with heading left (from the overland map, or right from town going out) on a forest siege.

Most people don't even realize at first that the mercenaries are on their side. Town defenders might be a better name for them, or guards, or just defenders even.

But the hills sieges really seem to throw people.

THIS is exactly the problem. I'm not a newbie, but I started a new character for the "Launch" feel, and I'm getting tossed into the siege with a character that gets her ass stomped into the ground as soon as she opens the palisade. All of this insider knowledge is fine and dandy, but it's not newbie-friendly. And that's bad for longevity. You're not supposed to throw this kind of stuff at a player who's played for maybe 3-4 hours.

I think the main issue the OP is referring to, is that IF a quest will PROBABLY be quite difficult for a new player - then he should at least have some sort of advance notice of this.
A Siege should not be part of a newbie quest without some help/hints/warnings.......

Even a new player has the right to expect some LOGIC to be present in his/her quests.
It is not LOGICAL to send a new player into a Siege with no help whatsoever, and many new players will be turned off by the illogical when they experience it.

I don't see any _real_ problem. If you can't win, train skills, gear up, and return when you are ready. It's not like main story is the only thing to do in the game. Was in the same boat with ghost boss in Highvale Outscirts, and did just that - trained skills and bought better gear.

    Edit: typo
