Most crafting adds xp to your pool but fishing doesn't as mining foraging lumberjacking etc adds xp can we please have fishing add some xp as well even if it is just a little would be nice like the crafting has xp gains usually 100 per unless its a crit which is 500 per.

I thought you get 400 XP for every trophy fish you catch?

    Edit:
That was in the patch notes for release 126:
"Normalized fishing XP across all scenes. SOTA-72062"

Any catch (including clothing items) will land you 200xp per if you're solo, but there's also a party bonus similar to adventuring. If you're in a party of 2 then each catch will be 350xp, in a party of 3 it's 400xp per catch, a party of 4 yields 450xp per catch, and so on.

In other words it obeys the same XP multiplier = 1 + 0.5 + 0.25 x (party_size - 1) equation as combat XP, but all of that XP goes to whoever makes the catch, with no XP being awarded to other party members. Also similar to adventuring XP, this bonus only counts for each party member within 40 meters (standard XP/loot sharing distance).

Edit to add that this XP is unaffected by PvP bonus.

I don´t understand how you get to your calculation.
    The player guide states:
"When an enemy is slain, all nearby party members share experience equal to a base of 50% plus an additional 25% per party member. For example, a party of two would gain 100% experience, and a party of eight would split 250% experience. "

    From that text I don´t get your 1 + 50% + 0,25 * (party size - 1 ) but 50% + 0,25 * Y (number of partymembers).

How else would "a party of eight split 250% xp"?
    50% + 0,25 * 8 = 250%

    Using your formula it would be 1 + 50% + 0,25 * (party size - 1) so 1 +50% + 0,25 * 8 = 350% which differs from the players guide.

1 + 0.50 + 0.25 * (8-1) = 325% would be the appropriate calculation, which was determined experimentally at Troll's Bridge. The findings were initially reported here, and have been occasionally verified (including in the current release, R129) with no change. I've also made a thread to suggest a change to the player guide here.

In that thread they referred to the steam page which had
"Increased party experience bonus to 50% base and 25% per extra member."

Where does everyone get the 1+ 50% + 25% *X from? I read "base 50%" that the formular starts with 50% of the XP of the monster and adds 25% per partymember.

The text that Alley quotes in 2021 from the players guide about a bonus of 10% have already been updated to the version I quoted in my last post.

Soooo - has the obsolete version from before 2021 been replaced with a version that is wrong in the players guide?

Yes, the Player Guide was at some point updated but is still incorrect. The 1 + 0.50 + 0.25 * (party_size - 1) equation is derived from killing mobs and observing how much XP they give.

Coswald is correct. It is 200 no matter what you actually catch as shown here in my short session where I catch boots and bait as well as fish. xp gained is on top.

    Interesting.
o.k. I will in the future complain a bit less when catching boots, gloves and helmets while fishing in the knowledge that those are worth 200 XP, too

I never complained about leeches, sardines or minnows I caught. Those have been at least useful to catch more fish unlike the clothing stores I got from the sea...

You do not need a party to gain XP. You gain the 200 XP per catch alone, too.

It would be really great if we could gain as much Producer XP for an hour of Fishing as we do for an hour of crafting. Unfortunately, it would take months, and possibly YEARS to level up fishing skills with XP gained from fishing. With the current system, a person has to spend hours crafting or harvesting nodes, in order to level up fishing skills... That is just beyond wrong :(

Gathering and crafting have mobs stopping you from doing it easily. Fishing does not. I don't think that would work well because players could just bot and macro fishing at will, with nothing at all stopping them.

and for those like Flair who usually stand in shallow water we need sharks like in Jaws! that jump so far out of the water to catch unaware fisherman... And a seamonster!

Problem with that is you would constantly be interrupted due to the long timer on fishing and therefore never catch anything. If you never catch anything you never gain exp or catch fish making fishing totally useless. There are plenty of places to fish with mobs around them if that is your cup of tea.
