Howdy! I can't say much at all as I'm just a technical advisor at this point. This is obviously not a great time to be doing a crypto game but they are moving ahead as best they can. If I hear anything I can share, I'll pass it along but mostly silent while they wait for the "Crypto Winter" to thaw.
A normal MMO's business model is challenge enough. But a crypto game right now .... wow. The current 'crypto winter' we see driven by trends we can see in today's news will have a generational impact on any crypto MMO/market buying patterns, IMHO. Just sayin' Reinvesting the effort into SOTA is a better bet.
Indeed, 10-15 years minimum, to see anything like we've seen in the past. The real money is to cater to the desires of a homebody aging population. Makes me wonder wonder where they could find one ~Time Lord~
I see crypto as just another money pyramid with some fancy technical stuff sprinkled on top. Yes some lucky people got rich, but that's how pyramids work anyway. On the game side of things: I don't get why would RG want a new game made from scratch to be an "instance based high fantasy UO successor".
I'm sure the game itself will be fun on its own. Just switch out the NFT monetization element with a traditional model, and put it out the door. If it's fun, with all the game design wisdom contributed by Lord British, it'll do well.
That'd require funding and the whole point of NFT games are to "self-fund" by fleecing the intended audience.
I removed a post that was incorrectly stating that SotA's asset development was impacted by NFTs. Catnip and Shroud of the Avatar are not connected to Iron & Magic in any way. Please limit discussion in this thread to fact based information about Iron & Magic. In addition, I am moving the thread out of the game forums as this topic is not related to SotA
If they are truly waiting on a crypto turnaround before they can even move forward, then this project is dead before it started.
Still complete radio silence on the Facebook page since September. The DeMeta twitter account hasn't posted since June. The Twitter page for their other project, DeHorizon, hasn't been updated since February 2022. Take this silence as a warning, if and when this project ever resurfaces to try to take your money... I don't trust DeMeta one bit. Maybe they are trying to wait out the crypto collapse and then will resurface once the climate is more favorable, but regardless their silence isn't a good sign. When things go bad, I won't be surprised to see them disappear with your money without ever delivering any meaningful content.
I believe I found it: Reminds me a lot of the humans (etc) being stuck in the Ep2 lands I believe Richard was talking about all those months ago. https://medium.com/@LordofJupiter/lord-of-jupiter-the-land-of-khiva-5e63e944c111 https://twitter.com/LoJ_fun https://discord.gg/dehorizon (project has its own discord section, read only of course which seems to be a common trend)
From the same company as iron and magic, its their NFT play, cataclysms, lost magic... unknown lands existing apart from each other... some of these back stories seem to reference ideas we have heard from chris and richard in the past, but perhaps just a coincidence. This is the story that seems to have the 'hub' idea what I heard chris mention once: https://medium.com/@LordofJupiter/lord-of-jupiter-the-land-of-jupiter-772bd5802e25
I cant believe RG bailed on this game the way he did. At this point Sota is ready for just more content and a UI and avatar refresh and then a big marketing push.
Iron&Magic is taking so long to make that when it comes out, Unity 2021 will be out of support already
Forget Iron & Magic, it's taking SotA so long to update to Unity 2021 that it will be out of support by the time they do!
Would be good to get an update on this, Seems Chris has been working on it for months and months and isn't even around lately!
