Why not allow those secondary accounts available through pledge rewards and the add-on store to share XP, both adventure and producer... its not like they are alts or anything since they share the bank and virtues? Hmmmm?

I agree that I would like Shared Exp without having the same skills leveled, But I think the problem there lies in "What happens to the Exp gained on a character you delete for the other character?" Usually if you delete a character all exp is lost, but now it is in the experience pool of Character A, so what happens? Character A now has an Exp Debt?

Not a bad idea. I used to play a game called UO years ago and I had these crystals you could buy that gave you the ability to transfer all your skill onto, for the purpose of transferring that skill to another character on your account, account bound, so no ability to sell it, or you could simply store it. It might be complex but would be something worth getting if they sold them and would help generate revenue for the game at the same time.

Why have a second character at all when you can learn everything with one character?

The OPs post is interesting, it offers a neat idea whilst respecting the principles of 'you as the Avatar' that LB wants to maintain, which I fully support with some reluctance (reluctance as it does somewhat limit aspects when compared to other MMOs*).

Stun's point is also significant. There is no limit on the exp points you can earn and it takes just as long to develop a new character as a Ranger (let's say) as it would to add the same Ranger skills to your existing toon, so I do struggle to understand why folks need another toon and I would love to understand this. Some folks cite the death penalty cost as a reason to diversify into 2 toons when you decide to had an entire new combat tree. I expect it may be harder to maintain a big enough exp pool to protect your skill investments if you have twice as many skills to protect, rather than having 2 tons, but i'm not clear on the maths..

    * I just want to add something, if I may, to Port's stance on additional characters sharing alignment which is understandably 'carved in stone'. LB was very sceptical about allowing a second toon (you are the Avatar and you face the consequences of your decisions reflected in your alignment), but I feel that having to buy a separate account in order to role play a different character with a different alignment (evil, neutral or good) is limiting. Port could make some money, I would imagine, selling a 'new Avatar' add-on that allowed you to set up a completely new existence, similar to a new account, but cheaper if you already owned a SOTA account. This could maybe be linked to an additional add on option for a SOTA subscription. Just a thought.

Some Month ago @Mac stated he's loosing 1 Million xp on 1st death and need around an hour to get it back.
He sure looses more now but i also know highlevels have xxx Million Pool to maintain . Even if they would loose 50 Million, if your Pool is 300 Million death decay is no serious matter.
There is absolutely no reason i am aware of to play a second character except specializations.
But to be honest thousands of hours of grind to only get a 2nd char with another specialisations is very miniscule incentive to buy another slot or make another character in general. You need your stats high again and all that and it even isnt a complete new char as he shares Bank and virtue. So not a reale Mule unless you have a 2nd Account and also nothing to game virtue with , because of sharing this too.

In wise foresight i dont tell you again what i want and what would make a second or third ... char very usefull and wanted.

I can think of a few fun or useful ideas for a second character:

    1) role play. Maybe you want to RP and join one of the interesting communities in game, like with Khali which is open-pvp, but you aren’t comfortable doing that with your main.

    2) dedicated crafter / miner. Since first time craft XP is significant way of gaining craft XP, you could set them up to specialize in a different tree than your main character, and benefit from first time crafting XP all over again.

    3) test subject. Say you’re a crafter and you want to know how items perform with certain skills. You can level character up to say 80 in whatever skills you are interested in, and lock them. Now you have a standard that you can do DPS testing with to compare sword 1 vs sword 2 with, and see which +14 weapon is really the better weapon.

    4) savings account. If you’re like me, you have a hard time saving the gold on hand. There is no mechanism I am aware of to “save” gold off the player character apart from mailing it to another character. Make a nice sale? Mail it to your other character to save for a rainy day.

I’m sure there are plenty of other ideas out there, these are just a few things I am doing or have thought about.

Why do they need to be made "more interesting"? They are what they are.

But they already make "some money" selling separate other accounts. How is this better for them?
Or for PvP in general. You can work toward a PvP build on a second character.
Put up a single Corpse Wax on a private commission-free vendor for however much you want to transfer to that character, then immediately buy it with the character that has the excess money. Also, don't sell all your junk items right away, put them in a chest somewhere. Not only is a chest full of junk items "stealth" money that you forget can be spent, they may also become worth more later. For instance, I had hundreds of wolf and bear heads stashed away, then I recently discovered that wolf speed and might potions gave nice producer XP.

I'm just contributing to what I thought was an interesting thread. Personally I would consider buying a second character if the character could have a different alignment. I know that would require a totally new Avatar, essentially a new account, and that's fine. I may, for example, decide to go evil, not bother with property, crafting or gathering and try to obtain all of my income from mobs, pvp and robbery :) What I wouldn't do is pay $39 for the privilege of such marginal interest. I would however pay $10-15 if it were available perhaps as an add-on to an existing subscriber.

    I think that's interesting.
What profit regarding pvp has a new character?

dont know about profit, but for me, I have a ton of stuff I carry on my main that I'd rather not lose, or have to drop off somewhere before going to do PVP. so keeping that relegated to other character is intriguing and makes it a bit more accessible for me.

Well, again, these limitations hinder a second character. First I would break the bond between characters. I would let them be separate. Second I would take away the premise of the avatar for secondary characters. I would open up the world to be able to play different races and have racial/city factions. Instead of playing THE avatar you would be able to play a person/race from the world. This would add so much to the game and for RP

Decay is way higher to a character that has all leveled... trust me.

Seriously, the decay penalty is way high for @Mac2, and using a lesser character for certain RP things (something I KNOW interests you) would lessen the blow. @Mac2 is my bro :p

I feel that this would result in xp being bought and sold outside of the game.

Character to Character (outside account): No... too easily exploitable in a dozen different ways, one of which being that a high level character can easily make millions of XP per weekend with only a few hours of game time.
Character to Character (inside account): No, as the characters share karma and bank because they are considered to be FAMILY, or at the least associated with one another (you are the company you keep). One character's pooled experiences do not directly translate to a "family member". And yeah, for the same reason above.

I dont like these idea. I even would like changes in the opposite direction. Now aditional characters share virtues. I would eliminate that, so we can have different "karma" with each character.
