Judging from the slim physique and cinched up belts, it appears the Lich King has a career ahead of him on late-night television selling the undead diet plan.

I thought the helm looked a little like the T2 Paladin set; might be just the title of "Lich King" contributing?

What type of poly count are you guys aiming for on individual weapons/characters? Just curious.

Hey folks, thanks for all the comments - the textures and low poly for this guy are just about finished. We haven't seen him in his dungeon throne room yet, so the levels may need to be tweaked a bit. The triangle count comes in at 14,600. That's a pretty big number, especially for a guy with no legs, but he has a full set of ribs and a lot of double sided armor. For now we aren't worrying too much about poly count, but I wouldn't be surprised if once we start getting accurate performance metrics we'll throttle those numbers back a bit. The rags aren't completely set up with the cloth sim, but the in-progress stuff is looking awesome. Bren is working on some cool attacks for this guy too. I included the UVs and low poly wireframe below. We're still finding our way with the various materials available in Unity. The one I went with supports pretty nice spec maps, which are critical for creating metal surfaces, and transparency, which we need for the rags. Unfortunately it doesn't support emissive maps, so the glow on the face armor and ribs is painted in.

Feel free to ask questions - Hope you like it!

Wow.. this is giving me ideas. I have a somewhat high poly item I made ages ago I wanted to edit and submit.. I kinda know my way around Max but I don't model professionally so it's nice to see someone explain this process. I feel like I can just cut loose now. Very much appreciated.

Awesome, truly. Will the belts be a bit chewed or otherwise 'worn' and aged, from never getting rested?

It's familiar but nothing specific comes to mind. The best I can describe it is giving a vibe of '80s cartoon Master Shredder and Dune II's House Harkonnen.
I'll have to put that question to Stephen on the next PoA. I think the thing that gets me about the spaulders is that the plates appear to be floating.
That said, thanks and keep up the good work!

Love how your using the lich's head for an Avatar. I hereby ask that you change your avatar to correspond with each piece your working on at the time :)

Course that could be annoying to change all the time, so I understand if you tell me off instead *grins*

    Thanks for the comments everyone!

@Montesquieu - I think you're right about the belt. It needs a little more wear and tear. I'm not sure if I'll have time to tweak it soon, but its on my to do list. You have a good eye!

@Pere - As for my inspiration, lets just say I'm a fan of bounty hunters.

@Stile - I'll keep this avatar until I finish something cooler. We have some awesome monster concepts coming down the line.

    Thanks everyone!

LOVE the way this guy is shaping up; thanks again for the progress updates.

Now, does it bug anyone else that his body and arms are bones/skeleton but his hands have flesh? Still, he does creep me out :)
